I will be giving preview of some of top teams in the state of Missouri for the coming 2023 football season. I kick things off with the two last season's Class 6 state champions, the CBC Cadets. They lost some very talented starters from last year's team, including several players who have gone on to play D1 football. However, their program has been built to reload with next up talent waiting in the wings.

At quarterback last year's starter [player_tooltip player_id='126260' first='Cole' last='McKey'] returns. Cole, who is getting interest from a variety of colleges, threw for over 1,900 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. His experience will be big, as will his skills and leadership he will bring as a team captain.

The Cadets also return very talent QB [player_tooltip player_id='285143' first='Jason' last='Wiley'], who would be the starter at most schools, who threw for 810 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore.

At running back they lost a very talented trio that they must replace, but will have a deep stable of backs ready to step up to rely on for 2023. Juniors AJ Johnson and [player_tooltip player_id='1305798' first='Alex' last='Morris'], along with senior [player_tooltip player_id='126218' first='Jared' last='Steward'] (who will also play slot) look first up to carry the rock, although the Cadets have two sophomores who look ready to contribute in speedy [player_tooltip player_id='402113' first='Courtney' last='Rivers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='402122' first='Jaylen' last='Marshall'] (who can also play WR). Both had a few carries on varsity as freshman.

National recruit [player_tooltip player_id='126237' first='Jeremiah' last='McClellan'] returns to lead the receiving corps. Jeremiah, who has named a top 5 of Ohio State, Mizzou, Oregon, Georgia and LSU will announce on August 13th. McClellan is more then just a big play receiving target for the Cadets. He is also a great running option at QB or running back if needed (had 330 yards & 4 TDs on the ground last year), along with on special teams. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='179185' first='Corey' last='Simms'] is up next as a national recruit for CBC. Simms has everything you want in a receiver at 6'3" 190 with his speed, hands and route running ability.
I mentioned the speedy senior Steward earlier who returns and who had 155 yards receiving in 2022. Senior Jude Pingel returns, and look for juniors [player_tooltip player_id='1236721' first='Jaquice' last='Williams'], [player_tooltip player_id='1124924' first='Brycen' last='Dorsey'] and A'Mare Hendricks to also contribute, along with possibly sophomores Nick McClellan (just offered by Mizzou) and Jaden Billups, who had a good offseason.

The Cadets also have one of the top class of 2025 TE prospects in the Midwest in 6'5" 240 [player_tooltip player_id='233164' first='Jackson' last='Kohl'] returning. Jackson already has offers from Nebraska, Iowa State, Louisville, Memphis, Duke, Kent State and others. He has great hands and runs like a receiver. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1294357' first='Jake' last='Plummer'] looks ready to play.

Along the offensive line powerful and athletic senior [player_tooltip player_id='126244' first='Bryce' last='Parson'] returns to anchor and lead at left tackle. Parson is another heavily recruited college prospect with multiple D1 offers. Senior Clovis Benson-Moore (6'8" 320) is a late bloomer to watch for at OT who looked good this summer. Other OLs such as juniors [player_tooltip player_id='1066977' first='Jordan' last='Watson'], Dwayne Willis and sophomore Gavin Hurlbut among others will need to step u and replace a talented group lost to graduation last year.

The Cadets will also have to replace a very talented defensive line group from last year's championship team. They have another D1 prospect to help with that in 6'4" DE prospect [player_tooltip player_id='830880' first='Triston' last='Abram'], who will pressure the quarterback off the edge. Abram had a great offseason after dominating on JV last year and is ready to step up help on varsity and colleges took notice. 6'2" 260 junior NG Shawn Carbbins returns after recording 22 tackles to help lead the defensive line. Senior DE Mark Lumpkin has one of the best motors you will find and his speed and quickness will be counted on. Juniors Mikell Abernathy, Dwayne Willis along with some sophomores are expected to step up and help fill the roles needed.

A talented group of linebackers return led by senior Nathan Carbone and junior [player_tooltip player_id='1118566' first='Lance' last='Walker'] (6'2" 240), who had 13 and 27 tackles each in 2022. Look for juniors Jacob Grunwalt, JP Metzler and [player_tooltip player_id='822399' first='Arthur' last='Porter'] to be in the mix also.

The defensive backfield may be the deepest of any of the positions and will be led by Illinois State commit [player_tooltip player_id='125258' first='Doreon' last='Dubose'], who had 51 tackles as a junior. Junior CB Viyon Corthrine and fellow juniors S Santino Hendrix, [player_tooltip player_id='328989' first='Zakiese' last='Smith'], AJ Matthews are part of that group expected to play big roles on defense. Sophomore GT Taylor looked impressive during contact camp during the summer. Several other sophomore could step up and contribute.
