This one was a great showing by the Northville defense, and a few key pieces for Clarkston showed some brilliance, in a losing effort. This article will talk about some of the great performances and superior talent that we got to check out.
Drew was electrifying on and off the field. On the field he was breaking on balls, batting them away and staying right in lockstep with a couple D1 commits from Clarkston. It was really one of the more impressive displays I have seen from a DB. Off the field, Drew was the vocal leader. He could be seen bouncing up and down the sideline giving high fives to every teammate, picking their heads up when they made a mistake, and letting them know that the job isn’t finished when they made a great play. On the field, Drew was really showing off some quick reactions, great hands to bat balls away, and showed he can change direction really easily. He was a big part of this win, and will be huge for the Mustangs going forward.
Highlights
Ferris was awesome. He put a ton of pressure on the offensive line from Clarkston, and was living in the backfield, making it a nightmare for the offense all night long. He even came away with a huge pick when Northville needed a big play. I was really impressed at the football IQ and discipline he showed as well. A couple times they ran some screens and he never got too up the field and recognized the situation and got where he needed to be. That was great to see from the big man. If he keeps working, he could be one of the best defensive linemen in the conference, and he shows a lot of potential for the next level.
Stepping in for a great QB graduate like Luca Pryor was is always tough, but Isaac looked really comfortable. He was calm in the pocked and under pressure, and his arm was fantastic. He made a lot of deep throws and made them look easy, but on top of that, he was really accurate with short and mid range balls where he needed to make quick decisions and fit it in a small window. There area teammates that are telling me he could match or surpass the production from last season, and that is really saying something. I can’t wait to see what kind of potential this Northville offense has with him at the helm.
Griffin Boman
Griffin Boman
Griffin was someone I had no intel on, but man I came away impressed and telling anyone I can about his performance. He’s built really well already, and had some really solid moves to make guys miss, but still runs physical as well. He’s going to end up as a really well rounded back if he keeps putting in the work. He doesn’t dance too much, but I would like to see him hit the hole and make 1 move a bit more, but so far I do love the base he has and the natural ability he displays. His underrated ability would probably be the pass blocking, and lead blocking. He was really good with that, and I am pumped to see how he evolves the rest of his game.
Desman was a really bright spot for Clarkston, as expected. The Boston College commit showed off a variety of abilities against the solid WRs from Northville. He always seemed to be helping other DBs in the Clarkston secondary with coverage and alignment. He is a real coach on the field, and BC is getting a good one in the leadership department. Physically, he’s one of the fastest athletes I have been able to cover so far, and he plays the ball really well. He was not the one covering the WR when Northville would score. He was a bright spot on an otherwise rough night for the Wolves.
I loved the way John played on Friday. He was physically imposing on everyone he ran into, and was superior in strength and technique pretty much every time. Clarkston is going to need him a lot this year holding it down in the trenches. As long as he continues to work on his explosion from his stance, keep building in the weight room, and developing all around, he could be a really solid prospect for the next level. He definitely has a solid base of technique, and Clarkston is well coached, so I have faith he will continue to evolve positively!
