Continue ReadingFerndale just unveiled a new field, which turned out absolutely stunning. The attention to detail is something to behold. It seems to serve as a bit of a sign. A sign of a new program, looking to get back on track and pay attention to detail themselves. I’ve had the chance to see Ferndale work a couple times this offseason, and they seem ready to compete in a new system with some new names on the coaching staff, and some new faces on the field ready to make a splash.
Cullen Hock
Cullen Hock
Cullen is coming into this season learning a brand new system. He seems to be picking it up well, as he seems to improve leaps and bounds every time I see or hear anything about him. So far it sounds like he’s been a great student of the game and new offense, and coaches are starting to get really excited that since practice started, he’s showing a legitimate threat to be a dual threat. If he can get it going on the ground and in the air, who knows what the limit is!
Leander Neal
Leander Neal
Neal is heading into his final high school season with some pretty high expectations. Returning as the leading receiver, he will be a big piece to Cullen Hock’s success as well. Coaches really like what he has looked like so far, and the last time I saw him work, he seemed to be picking things up quickly, and I noticed he is quite coachable. The offense could really be as he goes, and when things are clicking for Neal, Ferndale will be clicking as a team.
Justice McElmury
Justice McElmury
Having only 7V7’s to go off of, I obviously haven’t really gotten to see Justice work, but those in the program have made it clear to me that he is probably the hardest worker on the team. That really speaks volumes to who he is as a player, as I know Ferndale is a well coached but hard coached team. That seems to be the thing that this kid thrives under. If he continues to put in the work, he could anchor the trenches for the Eagles.
One kid I have had the pleasure to see this offseason is Gary Maxwell Gary Maxwell 5’6″ | 140 lbs | DB Ferndale | 2025 MI . While only a Junior, this will be Gary’s 3rd season of varsity ball! An absolute ballhawk on defense, and being compared to Sauce Gardner, he will look to add to his 7 picks in just 19 games. He moves extremely well, breaks quickly and can change direction on a dime. Ferndale is going to be extremely tough to throw on with Maxwell back there.
LaVarr Croxton
LaVarr Croxton
Colleges need to be on the lookout for this dude. Heading into his 4th year as a varsity starter, Croxton is looking to make all the work he put in this offseason worth it. Those in the program were impressed as he was able to completely transform his body in the offseason to become one of the strongest players in the Ferndale locker room. He is bought in and primed for an incredible final season.
Jaden Mills
Jaden Mills
Another solid prospect here, as I think his ceiling is super high. He will be a great supplementary player who is trying to bounce back after an injury last season sidelined him for a portion of the season. The coaching staff say he is really progressing nicely and starting to come into his own now that camp is underway. Look for him to be a factor in Ferndale’s success in 2023.
While I did leave them off my preseason rankings to start, (Which you can find on X/Twitter @MichFBFrenzy) there is no reason why they can’t climb onto the list quickly. They will be battle tested, and if I had to guess, they will be a dangerous team to play against if they can snag a playoff spot. Look for Ferndale to be a tough out, and have plenty to talk about this season!
