Continue ReadingI am excited to follow Nevada’s best defensive line prospects this fall. The 2024 class has talented prospects in the trenches all over the state. I believe the five listed in this article will be some of the most dominant in the desert. Below, I break down why these specific DL are set to be some of the heaviest recruited defenders in the state.
Tyler Stewart Tyler Stewart 6’3″ | 255 lbs | DL Desert Pines | 2024 State NV is a versatile defender out of Desert Pines High School. Tyler received his first offer from Minot State University in May. Be on the lookout for schools closer to home to offer Tyler before 2024 gets here.
Tyler’s next level strength gets displayed pushing pass blockers into the pocket by utilizing good leverage to go along with his powerful bull rush. Good effort and next level closing speed shows in pursuit of ball carriers as a run defender. A stout anchor, good shed technique, and high football IQ give Tyler a chance to be a solid run defender as a 1 technique in college.
Highlights
Josh Ulofoshio Josh Ulofoshio 6’2″ | 225 lbs | DL Bishop Gorman | 2024 State NV is one of several prospects in the trenches for Bishop Gorman. The underrated edge rusher is set to be a high rising DL prospect this fall. I am shocked Josh holds no offers and I would expect that to change before 2024 gets here.
Josh’s good combination of length, speed, and flexibility give him the potential to be an impact edge rusher at the next level. Good instincts, lateral quickness, and a smooth change of direction give Josh the next level range to stop runs outside of his vicinity. Josh length, strength, physicality, and power give him the potential to be a versatile speed and power rusher who can choose how he pressures college quarterbacks.
Alijah Carnell Alijah Carnell 6’5″ | 290 lbs | DL Bishop Gorman | 2024 State NV is a dominant defensive tackle for Bishop Gorman. Alijah currently holds eight division one offers. He also has visited multiple PAC12 schools, so expect Alijah to continue being one of the heaviest recruited defensive tackles this fall.
Alijah shows a rare combination of speed and power knocking back blockers off the snap and closing on ball carriers immediately behind the line of scrimmage. Great size, football IQ, and a strong base give Alijah the potential to play either nose tackle or three technique in college. Good flexibility, length, and explosive lateral quickness allow Alijah to be more than an interior power rusher at the next level.
Jayland McGlothen Jayland McGlothen 6’2″ | 250 lbs | DL Silverado | 2024 State NV is a rock in the middle of Silverado’s defense. Jayland committed to the University of Nevada on July 20th. Expect more coaches in the region to try and flip Jayland’s commitment before 2024 gets here.
Jayland shows next level power and a solid anchor holding his ground and violently disposing of blockers in the run game. Good football IQ and closing speed shows quickly identifying and pursuing runs outside of his vicinity. Good power, quickness, and a fluid change of direction allow Jayland to dominate interior pass blockers one on one.
Salesi Manu Salesi Manu 6’3″ | 240 lbs | DL Bishop Manogue | 2024 State NV is the best defensive line prospect outside of Clark County. Salesi holds five different division one offers at my last count. I would expect more offers to come in and his recruitment to be a tightly contested race until it comes time for Salesi to commit.
Salesi shows an explosive get off, good bend, and next level closing speed as a speed rusher off the edge. Coaches like Salesi’s combination of strength, shed technique, and next level range that gets displayed as a run defender. Good acceleration and power give Salesi the potential to be more than a third down speed rusher in college; Coaches see Salesi’s length and hand technique combine with his physical abilities and envision a true game wrecker at the next level.
