There are four states on the Mt. Rushmore of football in this country: Texas, Florida, California and of course Georgia. Football in Georgia is different. Plain and simple, it's just on another level from very early on. The talent runs deep and is obvious from earlier on, than in any other state, in my opinion. From metro-Atlanta to the more rural areas in the state, Georgia just breeds athletes.

Now, for the majority of the class of 2027 athletes, they will be getting their first taste of high school ball in just a few days. Prep Redzone Next is here to help shine a light on some of the freshmen to know about in Georgia this upcoming season.

Not all will play varsity right away, and some of the athletes below may have already peaked athletically in football. On the other hand, there may be (probably will be) glaring omissions from the list below–and that's the beauty of it. This is a Watchlist based off athletes we have either watched on film or seen in person during their pre-high school careers.

The only player officially ranked in every state will be who we perceive as being the top prospect in the state for the class, coming out of middle school. In Georgia, that 2027 prospect is Defensive End/Tight End, [player_tooltip player_id='378430' first='David' last='Jacobs']. All other players will be listed as Watchlist (WL), in alphabetical order.

When I first saw him play live in June of 2022, he lived up to the hype and beyond with his ability on the field. In June 202 at the Future Stars Game in Atlanta, I watched one of the most dominant athletic performances I've ever seen during a practice. From locking down wide receiver's and tight end's in pass coverage, to making some of the country's top offensive tackle's look silly with his hand in the dirt rushing the edgeu002du002dhe was special. Nearly two years later, Jacobs is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound athletic freak and is getting set to start his freshman season at Blessed Trinity. While he's on record saying that Georgia is his u0022dream schoolu0022, much in part due to the fact that his father played there, his first two offers came from the University of Arkansas and UAB this summer. Those two offers certainly won't be his last, as Jacobs is also high on Miami and Alabama early in this process.
