Gar-Field @ Gainesville:
Two squads coming off impressive Week 0 wins are going to clash in what already can be an early playoff indicator. The Gainesville Cardinals took care of visiting Potomac Panthers with their offense proving it can be one of the best in the state. Running back Koven Smith Koven Smith 5'9" | 180 lbs | ATH Gainesville | 2025 State VA accounted for 5 total touchdowns, while star receivers Trevor Moody, Aidan McClaferty and Wyatt Bach made quarterback Colton Kilmer night very easy. Kilmer who threw for 6 touchdowns last week, is in for a new test against a very strong Gar-Field Red Wolves defense.
I told you about the playmakers Gar-Field has at nauseum throughout this week, but they’re defense is not to be forgotten either. The Red Wolves did a great job containing star running back Marcus Ferguson Marcus Ferguson 5'7" | 150 lbs | RB Unity Reed | 2025 State VA Jr. from Unity Reed all night. You best be sure Coach Keihling will have his defense focused on stopping Smith come this week. This game could go a long way come district playoff time with the winner be in prime position to keep their season going come early November.
South County @ Quince Orchard:
The South County Stallions wasted no time in challenging one of the big boys of the DMV, they will welcome Quince Orchard this Saturday evening in what may be the game of the week. The visiting Cougars are coming off a 14-0 season would love more than to stop the momentum the Stallions have been building thus far.
South County handled Robinson last week very handily with big time performances from defensive end Hunter Malicki, quarterback Jordan Dennis Jordan Dennis 5'9" | 165 lbs | QB South County | 2024 State VA and running back Tommy Martz. Pitching an opening week shutout is very impressive, but the Stallions will need more of that effort and then some this coming Saturday, the Cougars will be ready.
Independence @ Tuscarora:
A fun one out in Loudoun as Independence will make the trip to face the 1-0 Tuscarora Huskies. The Huskies held off visiting Heritage Pride with a baseball like score of 9-0 last Friday, while Independence dropped a their opener to Massaponax 35-14. That score is misleading as this game was tied at halftime before the visiting Panthers pulled away in the second half. I am still bullish on the Tigers and really like what they are building with Nick Nassib Nick Nassib 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Independence | 2026 State VA at quarterback. The sophomore is one of the best quarterbacks in the state threw for 355 yards with a touchdown, a good night but not enough to secure the win.
Behind Florida commit Fletcher Westphal Fletcher Westphal 6'8" | 325 lbs | OL Tuscarora | 2024 State VA , Nassib and company will have to get the offense rolling fast as the Huskies are bringing it up front. Both sides of their lines did a great job last Friday in the win, with great performances particularly on defense. Tuscarora shutout Heritage and held them to 131 total yards of offense with an interception late to seal the victory. The Huskies welcome the Tigers Thursday night, expect a competitive game and fun atmosphere.
