The football season is finally here. What a start for the season. The War of the Birds has always been a great game to watch over the years. The Thunderbirds have controlled the series with 2 straight wins. Both of those wins have been very close games. Both of these teams every year seem to have some of the most talented rosters in the state. This game showed that. The Thunderbirds have 3 top-ten players [player_tooltip player_id='250689' first='Isaiah' last='McMorris'], Dae'Vonn Hall, and Daniel Kaeiln. All three of them are committed to the University of Nebraska. The Thunderbirds also have 5 more players ranked within our top 100 for 2024. Creighton Prep has two players within our 2024 rankings in Micheal Burt and Zach Mcleay. They are a younger team with a lot of future promise. The Game against Bellevue West proves that.

Game Recap

The entire game was a massive defensive fight Bellevue West scored quick in the first quarter with a great passing attack from Kaelin. The Thunderbirds defense made it a struggle for the Jay's offense through most of the first and second quarters. Players like Pono Dudoit and [player_tooltip player_id='402156' first='Kaprice' last='Keith']. Both of them dominated and disrupted Creighton Prep's offense all game. The Junior Jay's defense stepped up and started closing down on the passing game. Players like [player_tooltip player_id='733920' first='Sean' last='Skrydlak'] and [player_tooltip player_id='250696' first='Zac' last='McLeay'] closing down routes. This led directly to the Thunderbirds using their run game. Clayton Gauff pushed through scoring again but some miscommunication led to a failed 2-point conversion putting them up 13-0. A mix of QB runs with Kaelin and a dominant running game by [player_tooltip player_id='250681' first='Charlie' last='Gewinner']. In the second quarter, [player_tooltip player_id='1113969' first='Angelo' last='Walker'] pushed through the defense to put the Jays on the board with two massive runs leading directly to a touchdown. At Halftime the score was 13-7 with the T-Birds leading. The Jays got the ball to start the half and it did not take long for them to strike. [player_tooltip player_id='735712' first='Tony' last='Coniglio'] leads the Jays downfield. Ultimately a perfect catch by [player_tooltip player_id='1053982' first='Wyatt' last='Lasher'] leads to a touchdown by [player_tooltip player_id='415235' first='Jackson' last='Wurgler']. This score gave the Jays a 14-13 lead over the T-Birds. [player_tooltip player_id='402156' first='Kaprice' last='Keith'] came up with an interception leading to another Touchdown by Bellevue West. Ultimately the Jays offense was stopped. The Thunderbirds would eventually run the clock down scoring once again. The final score was 27-14.

Top Players

[player_tooltip player_id='1113969' first='Angelo' last='Walker'] RB

Walker really proved himself with his performance against the Thunderbirds. Directly impacting his team his tough running kept the game close. He was definitely the player that surprised me the most from the game. The Jays don't have an easy rest of the season however they'll lean on Players like Walker to help them get the chance to win against those tough opponents.

https://twitter.com/jedidiahrhardy/status/1692704047990489154?s=20

[player_tooltip player_id='169899' first='Daniel' last='Kaelin'] QB

The Nebraska commit showed off his talents on Friday. Even though he had a few struggles here and there he really showed out. He was 22/35 for 225 yards passing averaging 10.2 yards a pass. On the ground, Kaelin had 9 carries for 30 total yards. He is a consistent passer who is surrounded by talent. He really earns his hype when you see him in action.

[player_tooltip player_id='250681' first='Charlie' last='Gewinner'] RB

Another member of Bellevue West's running back room. Charlie has been dominant on the ground. In his career totally he has 31 carries for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns. 2 of those touchdowns were just from the 71-yard game against the Jays on Friday. His competition with Gauff will only make watching the T-Birds even more exciting than ever.

Cj Gauff RB

On Friday CJ had an outstanding day running 15 times for 104 yards for 6.9 yards a carry and 2 touchdowns. His showcase on Friday really stood out with him standing out among the other Thunderbirds. His senior season is going to be full of success if he continues to run like he did in Week 0

https://twitter.com/jedidiahrhardy/status/1692700223867367514?s=20
