The schools that have already offered the prospects in this article have benefitted from showing love early. However, I expect for other programs to throw their names in the hat as well. Here are five 2024 defensive tackles whose offers sheets should grow as the season progresses.
Jussiah Ali
Jussiah Ali
Jussiah Ali | 2024 | DT | San Antonio Roosevelt HS | 6’3 – 285 | Jr. Season HighlightsAli’s highlights start with a clip of him playing DE and sacking the QB, which was good, but the real magic happens when he lines up over the center at NT. Boxy, powerful build with a thick neck. Explosive get off and excellent snap anticipation, powerful lower body, violent hands. Quick feet, very good balance, and plays with great effort. Doesn’t just tackle – he punishes people. Only has offers from Sam Houston State and Angelo State at this point. Is listed at 6’3 but looks closer to 6’1 but I don’t care one bit. He’s a P5 NT in my eyes
Ashton Coker
Ashton Coker
Ashton Coker | 2024 | Katy Taylor HS | 6’2 – 290 | Junior Season HighlightsIn college football, it’s common for recruiting staffs to visit other programs for professional development to see what makes them successful. The problem is everyone wants to visit the Georgia’s, Texas’, and LSU’s of the world. They should be visiting programs like Louisian Tech who have always done a great job of evaluating and identifying talent early. Ashton Coker committing to them is a prime example of that. Powerful defensive tackle who gobbles up double teams and has the quickness to get into the backfield, I expect G5 and P5 programs will attempt to make him rethink his commitment.
Isaiah Johnson | 2024 | DT | Clear Springs HS | 6’4 – 255 | Soph. Season HighlightsJohnson committed to Memphis on August 15th, so he isn’t necessarily an unknown commodity. However, his HUDL profile is not showing highlights from his junior season. Also, his offer sheet is kind of random: Memphis, Louisiana Tech, Montana State, Prairie View, and Northwestern Oklahoma State. If I were still working in college football I’d want to know more context, evaluate his sophomore tape, and familiarize myself with his story. You’d hate for him to be another Texas product who left the state. Will eventually be a well-built 300-pounder and I’d expect for FBS programs in the state of Texas to jump in once he accrues updated game tape.
Highlights
Jaxson Maynard
Jaxson Maynard
Jaxon Maynard | 2024 | DT/DE | Smithson Valley | 6’2 – 230 | Jr. Season HighlightsPlays DT but projects as an Edge/DE-type of player at the next level. Thick lower half, has the frame to carry 250-260 pounds. Good athlete, very technically sound, high Football IQ. Good get off, beats offensive linemen with quickness, good use of hands and length. Protects his chest and sheds blockers really well. Love his effort and toughness. Has the speed to run down ball carriers. Productive junior campaign: 64 tackles, 23 TFLs, 10 sacks, 7 QB hurries, 3 fumble recoveries, 1 rumble recovery for a TD. Holds an FCS offer from Texas A&M-Kingsville. D-2 and FCS programs should be all over Maynard. G5 programs might wanna take a peek. 3.5 GPA might get him looks as a PWO at a P5 program like Texas or Texas A&M. Also throws shot put and discus.
