Continue ReadingThe early rounds of Prep Redzone Louisiana rankings updates naturally tend to be highlighted more by debuts than stock-risers.
Most young prospects are still just starting to emerge around the state and gradually participate in more games and other events and put together more film, and the list itself is expanding accordingly.
The latest update featured a jump from 50 student-athletes on the list to 100 — so, 50 names making their debut, including a pair in the top 10 and another pair in the top 20.
Even with all the new additions, five players earned slightly higher rankings this time around than last.
Richard Anderson Richard Anderson 6'4" | 280 lbs | DL Edna Karr | 2026 State LA | 6-4, 280 DL | Edna Karr
The big, disruptive defensive tackle was among the young standouts in Algiers to have, by all coaches and teammates accounts, had a notably productive spring semester of work and development. And Anderson appeared to show the fruits of that labor as the centerpiece of a nasty defensive line in the Cougars’ spring game and on the camp circuit in June.
Blaine Bradford Blaine Bradford 6'2" | 205 lbs | DB Catholic (Baton Rouge) | 2026 State LA | 6-2, 195 DB | Catholic (Baton Rouge)
Listed slightly taller and another 10 pounds more muscular on his long frame, Bradford continued to look more and more the part of a prototypical fast and physical safety at the next level with an intelligence and discipline with which he maximizes his great athletic traits.
Cole Bergeron Cole Bergeron 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB St. Thomas More | 2026 State LA | 6-4, 195 QB | St. Thomas More
As noted during the rankings countdown, Louisiana’s 2026 quarterback class has started to show some promise to potentially become another memorable group coming through the state. And Bergeron has the best height of the bunch, a strong arm and the opportunity to develop under the coaching of a staff with a track record for preparing Division-I quarterbacks.
Brodie DuMontier Brodie DuMontier 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Brother Martin | 2026 State LA | 6-0, 170 WR | Brother Martin
The Crusaders have an intriguing bunch of young receivers on the rise, and DuMontier has been an early leader among the bunch with good size, notable freshman experience under his belt and a feisty competitiveness than shows itself everywhere from his effort and attention to detail in his route-running, the weight room and other training settings to his confidence and energy on the field.
Desmen Jefferson Desmen Jefferson 5'10" | 175 lbs | ATH Ferriday | 2026 State LA | 5-10, 175 ATH | Ferriday
The cat-quick athlete may have been Louisiana’s most productive freshman pass-catcher this past fall with about 600 yards receiving with the shiftiness to consistently throw defenders off balance and explosiveness and acceleration to blow past them upfield. Jefferson is now listed about 10 pounds heavier heading into sophomore year.
