We are now a week away from the opening games kicking off as the 2023 football season in Oklahoma is right around the corner. And Prep Redzone Oklahoma will have you covered from start to finish. Since July 1st, we’ve been in preview mode and we’ve been pumping out a ton of preview content with over 100 team previews. If you missed any of them, you can check them out RIGHT HERE. Last week, it was all about the individuals with Preseason All State teams as well as comeback players and freshmen to watch. Now, it’s time to take a big picture approach with class by class previews.
In this post, we’re taking a look at Class B and Class C as we combine them for our 8-Man Preview. From our preseason rankings (including links to each team’s preview) to our All Class teams and much more, we’re getting you ready for the 2023 football season in Class B and C. Laverne is your defending champion in Class B while Tipton brought home the Class C title. Both teams sit atop the preseason rankings for their respective class but the biggest question is whether or not they’ll be there in December.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
August 25th – Regent Prep AT Weleetka
Week zero is going to see an outstanding Class B match-up as #2 Weleetka will host #4 Regent Prep. Both teams expect to contend for the state championship this season and we could very well see this match-up again late in the year. Both teams bring back nearly everyone from last year’s team and the Outlaws have some serious young talent. Regent Prep brings back everyone but this is also the last year for the Rams in Class B as they’ll be making the transition to 11-man football next season. We think that we’ll learn quite a bit about each team from this early season match-up.
September 8th – Laverne AT Seiling
Whenever you have a rematch from the state championship, that’s going to be one of the marquee games of the following season. That’s what we get here as Seiling will host top-ranked and two-time defending champion Laverne. Seiling got the best of Laverne in the regular season but Laverne would get the last laugh in the state championship game. Both games were incredibly competitive last season and we don’t see any reason why this year’s match-up in week two won’t live up to the hype as well. Laverne has the best player in 8-man football but Seiling won’t back down from the challenge.
September 29th – Velma-Alma AT Dewar
Another match-up featuring top five teams in our Class B preseason rankings will take place in week five when #3 Dewar hosts #5 Velma-Alma. You can make the argument that this will be the most important game of the Class B games listed here since this is a district contest. Dewar was dominant in their match-up a year ago and they don’t plan on taking a step back this fall. The winner here will more than likely be in the driver’s seat for the district championship. And with that, they’ll have an easier path when the playoffs roll around. This match-up will be an important one in the Class B race.
October 6th – Timberlake AT Waynoka
Class C also has several marquee regular season match-ups this fall and one of them will see #2 Waynoka hosting #4 Timberlake in another game featuring top five teams in the preseason rankings. The Railroaders were absolutely dominant last season and they made it all the way to the state championship game. But the only close game in the regular season came against Timberlake. Both teams were not tested in the regular season with the exception of their week six clash against one another. We anticipate this season being a lot of the same in this district and the winner could be a state title favorite.
October 20th – Tipton AT Mountain View-Gotebo
Defending Class C state champion Tipton will hit the road to face Mountain View-Gotebo in week eight. Both teams are in the preseason top five rankings and by the time week eight rolls around, we’ll know exactly where they stand in the state championship race in Class C. Tipton is not only the defending champ but they have been the thorn in the side of Mountain View-Gotebo over the last two decades. The Tigers have state championship aspirations but they have to knock off Tipton to take that spot. And this has been a completely one-sided series as Tipton has won the majority of the match-ups early on.
