Timpview Thunderbirds

Timpview may be 0-1, but they lost to one of the state's best teams in, the Skyridge Falcons. The Thunderbirds led at the half but were unable to carry that momentum into the second half. [player_tooltip player_id='717881' first='Helaman' last='Casuga'] is one of the state's best quarterbacks Timpview is one of the state's most talented teams on both sides of the ball.

2. Alta Hawks

Alta looked outstanding in their 42-14 win over Layton. Peizge Malilei dominated at linebacker and running back for the Hawks. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='698401' first='Matt' last='McKea'] was also tremendous in his season debut, with over 200 yards passing and two touchdowns. The Hawks have the pieces to win it all in 2023.

3. West Panthers

West is the only team in our top ten to have not played a game yet, but it's hard not to be high on their returning talent. The Panthers return one of the state's best quarterbacks in [player_tooltip player_id='532680' first='Isaiah' last='SueSue']. West is loaded with talented players along the offensive and defensive lines. They are a contender to win the state championship.

4. Orem Tigers

The Tigers trailed East 14-0 but outscored the Leopards 21-6 in the second half to earn a week one win. Orem has one of the state's best players in tight end [player_tooltip player_id='406967' first='Roger' last='Saleapaga'], and [player_tooltip player_id='681222' first='Lance' last='Reynolds'] is an elite quarterback. The Tigers roster is littered with talented players, and they should be considered one of 5A's top contenders.

5. Brighton Bengals

The Bengals pounced on Deseret Hills early, and they never let up in their 34-14 victory. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='406982' first='Jack' last='Johnson'] was exceptional, and so was Brighton receiver Donovan Wismer. Defensively the Bengals came to play and only allowed one touchdown in each half. Brighton could be in for a big year.

6. Olympus Titans

The Titans throttled Spanish Fork 28-7 in a dominant performance on both sides of the ball. Olympus quarterback Chase Moseley had a monster day that included over three touchdowns and over 300 yards passing. The Titans defense was also impressive, with [player_tooltip player_id='491876' first='Weston' last='Olsen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='698342' first='James' last='Schlendorf'] making plenty of big plays.

7. Springille Red Devils

The Red Devils demolished Dixie 34-7. Running back Tevita Valetia had another rushing performance over 150 yards, and he scored five touchdowns in the season opening win. The defensive line duo of [player_tooltip player_id='406957' first='Dallin' last='Johnson'] and Kinikinlau Fonohema were forces up front, and the duo finished the night with a combined 13 tackles. Look for Sprinvillge to make noise in the 5A race all year long.

8. Granger Lancers

The Lancers may have lost week one, but they were going against what many consider to be the state's best team. Granger was defeated handily by Corner Canyon, but their plenty of reason to believe they will be one of the premier teams in 5A. Look for [player_tooltip player_id='870715' first='Carson' last='Su'esu'e'] and [player_tooltip player_id='532688' first='Landon' last='Figueroa'] to be one of the best quarterbacks and wide receivers

9. Box Elder Bees

Box Elder bested Kearns 55-26. The Bees are one of the most impressive teams in 5A on both sides of the ball. Running backs Dax Sumko and Mason Jeppesen each rushed for over 100 yards and at least one touchdown. Jeppesen also finished the game with ten tackles, only trailing Nathan Pugsley who had 12 in the win. The Bees are capable of making a deep run by the time the playoffs roll around.

10 Northridge Knights

The Knights made things happen on nearly every play as they defeated Murray 43-0. [player_tooltip player_id='698341' first='Jaxon' last='Fresques'] had nearly 200 yards receiving on just five catches while Quarterback Porter Olsen had over 350 yards passing yards and two touchdowns. Northridge could be a sleeper team to watch in 2023.
