As teams are preparing to open their season on a high note, let’s take a look at a few guys who are on course to electrify the crowd on Friday nights this fall. From freshmen to seniors, the state is full of high-quality talent bound to burst onto the scene. These four athletes are guys you need to keep an eye on throughout the 2023 campaign.
How about Jerquaden Guilford Jerquaden Guilford 6’2″ | 175 lbs | WR Northrop | 2026 State IN picking up his first D1 offer before ever playing a snap of varsity football? The sophomore wideout has the size and speed to cause headaches for opposing defensive coordinators this year. Fort Wayne Northrop didn’t have the year they were hoping for in Quentin Bowen’s first season at the helm for the Bruins, but the outlook is positive for this year and beyond. Guilford stands at 6’2″ and as he continues to grow physically as well as develop his craft, we could be looking at another great Northeast Indiana standout. Northrop is slated to take on New Haven in week 1, which will showcase another great wide receiver in Mylan Graham Mylan Graham 6’1″ | 175 lbs | WR New Haven | 2024 State IN .

You hear the term “high motor” quite frequently in football but Collin Foy Collin Foy 6’3″ | 285 lbs | DL Hanover Central | 2024 State IN out of Hanover Central fits that trait to a T. You won’t see him take a play off and just because a play is going the opposite direction that Foy is lined up on, doesn’t mean he won’t make a difference in result. He will either chase opposing ball carriers down or clean up the scraps when the play is at a stalemate. Foy is incredibly strong and can often dominate blockers that are in his way. His play doesn’t go unnoticed either, earning 1st team all-conference and 1st team all-area honors a season ago. Standing at 6’4″, 280 lbs, Foy is built like a player who can be a game changer. It will be exciting to see how Foy develops and dominates in his senior campaign.

The Northern Lakes Conference is sure to be an intriguing conference to keep an eye on this season. One of those teams who can do damage during conference play this year are the Northridge Raiders. Out of the backfield, McClain Miller McClain Miller 6’2″ | 220 lbs | RB Northridge | 2024 State IN is must-see on any given Friday night in the fall. He recently committed to FCS powerhouse North Dakota State and his senior campaign is bound to be notable in the region, as well as statewide. In 2022, Miller rushed for 979 yards and tallied 11 touchdowns as the Raiders brought home their second sectional title in the same amount of years. He is the complete back. He isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder and run through defenders and once he gets into space, good luck catching him. It seems that he can put 6 points on the board on any given play. Miller looks to give Northridge a shot at playing in Indianapolis for their final game of the year, as they did just that in 2021.

I love the way Ty Veen Ty Veen 6’0″ | 220 lbs | LB Valparaiso | 2024 State IN plays the linebacker position. He’s everything you look for in a leader of your defense. You’ll see early on how tough as nails Veen is. He doesn’t shy away from contact and looks to unload on opposing ballcarriers as hard as he can. Veen excels at keeping his eyes in the backfield and tracking down the ball. He won’t get caught drifting one way or another and end up playing catch up. His game is simple: Identify the ball carrier and bring him to the turf. Not only does stifle enemy running backs, but he also is stellar in pass defense. A season ago, he tallied three interceptions, one being a pick six and another while soaring through the air at full extension and coming down with the ball. Keep an eye on him this year as he looks to lead the Vikings to another state title run.
