Gone are Zandae Butler and Randall Bellamy and Evin Singletary and Nathan Schuessler.

Four receivers from this chunk of the state who put up big numbers and reminded defenses just how dangerous they could be at any moment during the game. The Grand Strand and Pee Dee have the perfect elixir.

From the coast right on over to Florence, eight receivers are primed to re-stock the area's positional strength.

THE DARK HORSES

[player_tooltip player_id='997250' first='Derek' last='Grant'] Conway

Like just about everyone else on the Conway offense a year ago, Grant wasn't on the field the entire season. But when he was, he hauled in 17 receptions or 391 yards and three touchdowns. The Tigers graduated top receiver Aiden Brantley, and Grant now steps into that spot. Why are we so hopeful for his production? He and quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='208332' first='Devin' last='Grainger'] are tight from spending significant time together in multiple sports and have chemistry to spare.

JT Thompkins Hannah-Pamplico

The Raiders lost nearly all of their receivers from last season, including Josh McNeil and Tae Sellers. But in terms of offensive potential, Thompkins (seven receptions, 103 yards last year) has every chance to be a high-impact guy. He's 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, runs a 4.63 40 and gives all-state quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='922678' first='Wade' last='Poston'] an excellent target while everyone else is focused on 2000-yard tailback [player_tooltip player_id='464882' first='Jamarcus' last='Williams'] and his elite skill set.

THE KNOWN COMMODITIES

[player_tooltip player_id='929482' first='Kaden' last='Gore'] North Myrtle Beach

Gore isn't going to pop off any size charts. But the 5-foot-6, 140-pound receiver is going to get a ton of looks this fall. Last season, he finished with a team-high 422 receiving yards and three scores on 26 receptions. He's losing teammate Landon Cloninger in the receiving room, but only because Cloninger is the Chiefs' new starting quarterback.

[player_tooltip player_id='272701' first='John' last='Simmons'] Myrtle Beach

For two seasons, we've been sort of waiting for Simmons to blow up, watching him go from talented freshman to an even more talented sophomore. The biggest thing holding him back has been a stout depth chart to start and then the Seahawks' well-documented offensive woes from 2022. Still, he hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, he could help spur the revival in Myrtle Beach.

[player_tooltip player_id='413888' first='Josh' last='Brown'] Socastee

Socastee's “other” receiver can go across the middle. He can get behind the entire secondary. He can break tackles. No one is going to be wowed by his 198 receiving yards and three scores from a season ago. But if you know the situation at Socastee, there's no reason to believe he couldn't eclipse those figures in three or four games this time around.

THE NEXT LEVEL WRs

[player_tooltip player_id='771237' first='Quadir' last='Scott'] Socastee

Scott has the vision of a tailback and the knowledge of the offense of a quarterback. It's not a big secret why after he was moved behind center for the bulk of last season after an injury. That's been the big storyline with this (and we take some of the blame for it), but we don't think anyone will be talking about 2022 after Scott has time to re-establish his receiver credentials here in a few weeks.

[player_tooltip player_id='139297' first='Jyron' last='Waiters'] Wilson

The East Carolina verbal commitment put his name all over the map with his 700-yard, 11-touchdown junior year and then reminded folks that he was only scratching the surface. Waiters is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound blazer who already led the Tigers and their pass-happy offense in receptions. Now, he's going to get an even bigger share of the work load to do his thing.

[player_tooltip player_id='464881' first='Jayden' last='Sellers'] South Florence

You can wonder all you want how LaNorris Sellers' departure will affect the Bruins' productivity. But do doubt for a second that [player_tooltip player_id='464881' first='Jayden' last='Sellers'] (pictured) is a force on the outside. We expect he'll attract double teams galore and that at times South Florence is going to choose to go run-heavy. The unsuspecting and underprepared defenses on the schedule will get lulled into a false sense of confidence, and Sellers will be the proof.
