The South County Classic is an annual event where 20 teams gather to compete in 7-on-7 and some in a linemen competition.
Mater Dei won the event by beating Mission Viejo in finals.
Here are some offensive players that stood out to me during the event. Disclaimer: I did not get to see every team play.
MATER DEI
I did not get to see a lot of Mater Dei on Saturday but it’s not the least bit surprising that the Monarchs won the tournament. Elijah Brown Elijah Brown 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Narbonne | 2024 State CA was slinging the ball as usual and freshman quarterback Furian Inferrera got some meaningful snaps. Marcus Brown Marcus Brown 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Mater Dei | 2024 State CA caught three touchdown passes in the championship game against Mission Viejo.
MISSION VIEJO
Mission Viejo used its running backs a bit more than they did the previous week in the Battle at the Beach. Hinesward Lilomaiav caught a touchdown pass from Luke Fahey Luke Fahey 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB Mission Viejo | 2026 State CA in the championship game and Winslow Garnier also had a touchdown reception.
SERVITE
Servite is a program that is on the right track to improvement with strong underclassmen players. Leo Hannan Leo Hannan 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Servite | 2025 State CA was one of the top quarterbacks on the day and he is a fast-rising prospect. Tight end Aidan O’Callaghan was a breakout performer of the day and Quinn Rosenkranz was good as he usually is.
CENTENNIAL
Husan Longstreet Husan Longstreet 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Centennial | 2025 State CA did not play for the Huskies due to a finger injury but Centennial may have the best young receiving corps in Southern California. Noah Westbrook Noah Westbrook 6'3" | 205 lbs | WR Centennial | 2025 State CA got heavy praise from the coaches along with Cory Butler Cory Butler 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Centennial | 2025 State CA and Rancho Cucamonga transfer Jason Harris Jason Harris 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR Centennial | 2024 State CA .
SAN JACINTO
San Jacinto was competitive with Centennial for a bit and it was largely because of Oregon commit Dillon Gresham Dillon Gresham 6'1" | 165 lbs | WR San Jacinto | 2024 State CA . He took reps against both of Centennial’s top corners and was getting open against multiple coverages.
CYPRESS
Cypress moved the ball well throughout the day due to its returning star quarterback Aidan Houston. He is one of the top senior quarterbacks in Orange County. Michael Hubbard Michael Hubbard 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Cypress | 2024 CA and Jake Portenueve made big plays for Cypress down the field.
LA HABRA
La Habra showed off new quarterback Kenny Saucedo and worked in an impressive freshman as well. Bryce Whitley is a speedy target for the Highlanders and Brandon Giron is eligible for the full season this year after transferring a year ago. Junior tight end Ulavai Fetuli is 6-foot-4 and may be a matchup nightmare this fall.
MILLIKAN
Millikan looked better in the game I saw them play than they did last week in the Battle at the Beach tournament. The usual top guys played well for Millikan like Ryan Pellum Ryan Pellum 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Millikan | 2024 State CA and Gregory McClendon Gregory McClendon 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Millikan | 2024 State CA .
APPLE VALLEY
Apple Valley went winless in pool play but still had some players perform well. Noah Celie is a good athlete at quarterback. Head coach Kyle Godfrey praised the efforts of running back Xavier Salazar, receivers Jacob Wilkerson and Will Christian.
CHAPARRAL
Chaparral had one of the best quarterbacks of the event in Dash Beierly Dash Beierly 6'1" | 215 lbs | QB Mater Dei | 2025 State CA . He is built like a linebacker and can throw as well as anyone. Multiple opposing coaches praised him. Jacob Alvarez Jacob Alvarez 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE Chaparral | 2025 State CA is a big tight end who you can’t cover with most linebackers in man coverage. Corbin Frutos got praise from the Chaparral coaches and so did freshman Tycen Johnson.
BISHOP AMAT
Bishop Amat went undefeated in pool play and was moving the ball down the field consistently in a solid pool that included Mayfair and Mission Viejo’s B team. Frankie Villalbazo Frankie Villalbazo 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Bishop Amat | 2025 State CA looked solid at quarterback and he has a big frame. A plethora of receivers performed well for the Lancers including Cameron Vasquez Cameron Vasquez 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Bishop Amat | 2026 State CA , Talan O’Dell, Damien Marez, Eric Osorio Eric Osorio 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Damien | 2026 State CA and Isacc Jauregui.
