And the Spartans appeared to open some eyes this June with some impressive showings on the high school 7-on-7 circuit as they try to continue building heading into that group’s final high school campaign.
They were familiar faces during Prep Redzone Louisiana’s offseason tours and garner their edition in the series of “3-2-1” spotlights looking at three key returning standouts, two notable breakout candidates and one underclassman to know sooner than later.
3 WELL-KNOWN RETURNERS
Cameron Dorsey Cameron Dorsey 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Salmen | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 190 QB — Salmen (2024)
Call the rising senior quarterback the straw that stirs the drink with his clear leadership and handle of the offense, getting a deep cast of his teammates involved all over the field. As a passer, Dorsey has a strong arm, but a good feel for when to put some touch on his throws. He has active feet and good pocket presence and poise to stand in and make throws under pressure, but enough athleticism to extend plays and make good, strong throws on roll-outs.
Kaileb Rayford Kaileb Rayford 5'9" | 155 lbs | ATH Salmen | 2024 State LA — 5-9, 150 WR/DB/ATH — Salmen (2024)
and Damon Narcisse — 6-3, 190 WR — Salmen (2024)
The Spartans return a pair of all-district receivers as complementary weapons to lead Dorsey’s strong cast of targets. Rayford is three-phase playmaker stands out with his 4.46-second 40-yard speed and quickness in his changes of direction — whether in route-running, coverage or with the ball in his hands on offense or as a returner — and plays bigger than his size with his toughness and confidence. And Narcisse provides the biggest target with his size and catch radius, does well navigating traffic and making contested catches and has enough speed to get upfield in a hurry on the outside or after making defenders miss after the catch.
Jacobi Jefferson — 5-9, 175 RB — Salmen (2024)
The rising senior running back would’ve been a fine fit in the breakout category as well with the step forward coach Eric Chuter and company see him in the process of making. But Jefferson joins Rayford and Narcisse as the team’s three returning all-district first-teamers on offense after earning a nod at the athlete spot as a junior working alongside 2023 graduate Issac Casnave in the backfield rotation. “Hellcat” is the smaller, shiftier of that duo with his quick feet through traffic, but shows good physicality and balance bouncing off attempts tackles for additional yardage.
2 BREAKOUT CANDIDATES
Tremon Joseph — 6-2, 180 DB — Salmen (2024)
Keep an eye on another senior on the other side of the ball as another name more people will potentially be talking about this season as he earns more playing time alongside fellow rising seniors on that side of the ball such as defensive end Dwayne Hartley, defensive tackle Dwayne Coleman and defensive back Jaylun Robinson. Joseph is a tall, experienced corner with a good build and physicality to be a versatile player in the secondary and he showed good confidence and feel this summer to diagnose developing plays and make strong breaks on passes for interceptions and breakups.
Tayshawn Scott Tayshawn Scott 6'0" | 150 lbs | ATH Salmen | 2025 LA — 6-0, 160 WR/DB — Salmen (2025)
and Desmond Beasley Desmond Beasley 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Salmen | 2025 LA — 5-11, 165 WR/DB — Salmen (2025)
These two-way athletes are among the team’s top juniors to watch playing big roles alongside the aforementioned senior leaders. Beasley earned all-district honors this past fall as a defensive back — the only sophomore in District 8-4A to garner that recognition on either side of the ball — but is now listed as a receiver and running back on the roster with the potential to add yet another weapon to the Spartans’ attack alongside the seniors and Scott, himself a playmaker this spring and summer as both a safety and receiver.
1 UNDERCLASSMAN TO KNOW
Camron Robinson Camron Robinson 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Salmen | 2026 LA — 5-8, 150 RB — Salmen (2026)
The speedy rising sophomore will be one of the Spartans’ younger athletes to watch both earning some reps this fall alongside Jefferson and succeeding him in the years to come. Robinson is another smaller back with home-run speed that he flashed this spring.
