Huge thank you to Neb Preps and Battle Sports for allowing me to attend the Neb Preps Se7en 7v7 Tournament. With several teams from Omaha and surrounding areas in attendance, I was able to see a lot of high-level competition. I'll do a few articles where I will feature some of the top players throughout the two-day tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='675851' first='Javonte' last='Walker'] | 2024 | DB | Millard South | 6'0" 175 lbs

Hudl | Twitter

- Javonte's defensive efforts were huge in helping the Patriots win the championship. Walker's back-to-back PBUs in overtime against Omaha Central were pivotal in keeping them alive.

- Walker didn't play last season due to an injury, but it looks like he could be a huge breakout player this season.

- Super physical DB that uses his hands very well to help break up passes. He does a good job timing it as well.

- He has a solid frame to play against big-body receivers and showed the quickness/athleticism to stick with shifty, twitchier receivers.

- Huge season coming up for Javonte!

[player_tooltip player_id='250052' first='Jahmez' last='Ross'] | 2024 | RB | Omaha Westside | 5'10" 190 lbs

Hudl | Twitter

- For a 7v7 tournament, the running backs in attendance were some of the biggest stand-out performers, including Westside's [player_tooltip player_id='250052' first='Jahmez' last='Ross'], who was unstoppable as a receiver.

- His awareness, recognition, and vision were all on display as he constantly exploited weak spots in the opposing defenses and broke away for big plays.

- Great hands and is also really good after the catch. Jahmez has great breakaway speed that saw him outrace defenses to the endzone on several occasions.

- Without pads on, I got to see more of Jahmez's shiftiness in the open field and how he's able to elude defenders. Very good stop/start and has great acceleration through his change of direction.

- Versatility as a receiving back out of the backfield or lined up like a receiver.

[player_tooltip player_id='340512' first='Brant' last='Benes'] | 2024 | WR/DB | Boone Central | 5'11" 165 lbs

Hudl | Twitter

- Brant was only there on the second day of the tournament but wasted no time in making an impact on the field.

- Taking one of the cornerback spots, Brant did a great job against the opposing team's top receiver in most cases.

- He moves very well in coverage, with fluidity in his footwork and the ability to flip his hips at a moment's notice.

- Benes plays with good hands and knows how to challenge the receiver at the catch point. As a receiver himself, Brant knows how to play the ball when it's up in the air.

- Great receiving target that can get open with his sharp route running. His suddenness in his routes helps him create separation from defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='320049' first='Sebastian' last='Circo'] | 2025 | QB | Omaha North | 6'0" 170 lbs

Hudl | Twitter

- Sebastian continues to elevate his game every year and seems to have taken another step this offseason.

- Circo's ball placement and accuracy are still some of the aspects of his game that stand out the most. He does a great job putting the ball only in reach for his receiver.

- He reads the field very well and did a great job moving off his first read to look for other open targets. Circo has a quick release once he finds his target.

- Very good deep ball!

- Sebastian was also noticeably taller, with more muscle on his frame.

[player_tooltip player_id='516768' first='Reed' last='Patera'] | 2024 | RB/ATH | Platteview | 5'7" 140 lbs

Hudl | Twitter

- Another receiving back that left a huge impression at the two-day tourney. Platteview's [player_tooltip player_id='516768' first='Reed' last='Patera'] was a huge threat

- Very shifty with the ball in his hands. He made several defenders miss with his sharp cuts and ability to cross a defender's face on a dime.

- Defensively, Reed played linebacker but showed excellent range and coverage ability similar to a nickel back.

- He has very good instincts, which showed on the field with how many big plays he was responsible for on defense. Patera was quick to jump routes to get picks, picked up on offensive schemes, and communicated plays as they were happening.
