College commitments began to pick back up in the second half of July with five rising seniors announcing their plans during the past week.

Four prospects shared pledges to in-state programs — three for football and one multisport standout opting for a baseball opportunity.

The Bears' multisport standout has remained in the Prep Redzone Louisiana rankings despite the uncertainty — or unlikelihood — whether he might play football at the next level. Wright has the size, speed, instincts and physicality to be a Division-I safety, but has also been a highly recruited baseball prospect, including a prior commitment to Houston. And on July 18, he announced his pledge to take his talents on the diamond to the nearby Ragin' Cajuns.

One of the bigger question marks regarding Wright each round of rankings updates has been the likelihood — or not — that he would potentially play football in college.

Central Arkansas landed the commitment July 19 from the big U-High defensive end and linebacker over notable interest from others programs around the state and region and particularly Marshall and North Texas. Guidry transferred this summer from Dunham to the Cubs' loaded roster where he is expected to have a big season as a key piece of a stout defensive front.

[player_tooltip player_id='1202511' first='Carter' last='Hanberry'] | 6-0, 200 LB | Dutchtown —> Southeastern Louisiana

The Griffins' all-district linebacker helped kick off a string of commitments for in-state colleges when he announced July 19 his choice of Southeastern Louisiana for the next level. Hanberry finished his junior campaign this past fall with 60 tackles, including 15 for loss, and three interceptions in nine games as a hybrid safety/linebacker with standout physicality in his hard-hitting tackles and block-shedding and good ball skills when called upon in coverage.

[player_tooltip player_id='421516' first='Sandy' last='Lewis'] | 6-2, 235 LB | Lafayette Christian —> McNeese State

Lewis became the third member of the Knights' talented 2024 class to announce his college decision when he shared his commitment July 19 to nearby McNeese State, where his older brother Masey signed in 2021. The younger Lewis had been recruited by several Power-Five programs before ultimately giving the Cowboys one of their most biggest recruiting wins in recent memory.

[player_tooltip player_id='139482' first='Tylen' last='Singleton'] | 6-2, 210 DB | Many —> LSU

The Tigers will be keeping another of the state's top prospects home in Louisiana. Singleton has been a playmaker for his current Tigers of Many High since freshman year, including Outstanding Player honors in the 2020 state title game, and a top-two prospect in each of Prep Redzone Louisiana's rankings updates for the class throughout his high school career. In the most recent update, LSU now holds commitments from eight of the top 11 players and 12 of the top 18. And Singleton's July 22 announcement also represents a recruiting win at one of the state's prep programs where all the other recent top prospects have left the state.
