DePaul is returning a lot of talent this season. Their team was a still young in 2022, so with the experience they now have under their belt I think we can expect them to do some big things this fall. One of my favorite rosters with possibly the best 2026 QB and 2025 WR and CB, look out for what this team does in 2023.
Deshawn Stewart Deshawn Stewart 6’2″ | 185 lbs | DB DePaul Catholic | 2025 State NJ is the definition of a shut down corner. With 3 interceptions on the season in 2022, Deshawn is a straight up ball hawk. He is the type of corners you can trust to handle one on one with the best the other team has to offer at the wideout position. He can press at the line and stay stride to stride with them down the field. A lengthy corner, Deshawn has great reach and an ability to get his hands in front of the receiver just in time to prevent the catch. With offers from Duke, Syracuse, Boston College, UConn and many others, DeShawn will look to continue impressing schools this season. Deshawn is one of my favorite 2025 corners coming out of NJ and I don’t see a lot of receivers getting by him these next two years.
With 75 tackles, Matt Huliev dominated from the linebacker position last fall. Matt not only made plays from sideline to sideline, but also penetrated the backfield to make plays on the running back and QB. With 4.5 sacks on the season, Matt was able to bring pressure anytime he came in on the blitz. And with 9.5 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble, Matt consistently made momentum changing plays for his defense. Matt was great in the pass and run defense game last season, and we will look to 2023 with the expectation of doing even greater things.
Jadin Johnson
Jadin Johnson
Jadin Johnson is set up for success in 2023. A player that is utilized as a runner and pass catcher, Jadin is hard to keep track of when he is on the field. With 6 touchdowns and over 500 total offensive yards last season, Jadin showed his opponents that they need to keep an eye on wherever he is on the field. Jadin is a blur when the ball is in his hands. He is one of the faster players in the state and most defenders will have a tough time trying to pursue him as he dashes by. Jadin can even dazzle as a receiver. He has a great pair of hands that catches anything in his radius, and will make jaw dropping catches in pivotal moments. I think Jadin is set up to make some game changing plays in 2023, and we should hear more and more about him as the season progresses. Jadin received his first D1 offer from Southern Connecticut recently, and I think he is a player that deserves a few more.
De’zie Jones is a 2025 receiver I have become very familiar with over these past few months. His name continues to pop up in conversations as one of the best WRs in the 2025 state class. This all makes sense too; Dez accumulated over 1000 yards as a sophomore and found the end zone 6 times. He is a very agile receiver. He can get defensive backs to anticipate him going one direction, only to dig his foot in and go the opposite way. And once the ball is in his hands he will make guys miss with his agility and elusiveness. Dez has received offers from schools such as Texas, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Duke, and many others, and I am sure more offers will be piling on this fall.
If you are familiar with my articles, you will know I am very high on Derek Zammit Derek Zammit 6’0″ | 170 lbs | QB DePaul Catholic | 2026 State NJ . So much so, I believe he may be the best QB in NJ coming out of the state in 2026. A young gunslinger that is already capable of it all, he is a reliable QB to command this DePaul offense. With 1329 passing yards and 12 touchdowns as a freshman, Derek is set up to put up large statistical numbers these next few seasons. With a loaded roster around him, Derek will look to show off his skills by delivering perfect dimes to deep route runners and evade pass rushers as he keeps his eyes downfield to make a play. He has a very strong arm already and will continue to progress over these next three years. With offers from Wake Forest and Duke thus far, look for Derek’s inbox to explode in 2023.
