Continue ReadingWe can’t begin a preview without discussing the man behind center. Jalen Harris Jalen Harris 6’1″ | 170 lbs | QB Chester | 2026 State PA , the freshman phenom of old, is coming off a breakout season. Harris accounted for a large sum of yards, both through the air as well as with his legs. Harris, currently ranked as the second-best quarterback in his class, allows for a myriad of formations and play sets that the Chester coaching staff uses to their advantage. A ton of split-out gun formation sets that look to attack a defense with a spread look. Athletes everywhere, you’re going to have to account for everyone on the field. Harris, a delegator beyond his years, is adept at making the correct reads on the fly and delivering accurate, catchable balls. I stress this every time I write on Harris, he’s a pass-first dual-threat prospect. This allows for magic once a play breaks down. His tape is littered with impromptu throws outside the pocket, making him one of the more difficult passers to bottle up in the state. He can target downfield, he can hit timing routes. Harris can escape the pocket with intent to find an open man. Everything starts and ends with this young man behind center.
Chester gets to deploy another top-25 prospect, one that specializes on both sides of the ball. That is the recently-named top overall tight end prospect, Dominic Toy Dominic Toy 6’5″ | 225 lbs | TE Chester | 2024 State PA . Gameplanning against Toy the EDGE rusher is pretty simple, executing, however, is not. On defense, Toy will bring premier edge rushing ability, the likes that I would be comfortable calling elite. College coaches will more than likely prefer his defensive reps when recruiting him, yet we can’t dismiss what he brings to the table on offense. He shows off his versatility here, the Chester coaching staff can get creative when Toy is in the huddle. The young man is powerful and skilled enough to act as an impact blocker, so he doesn’t need to come off the field much. In passing sets, expect Toy to be unleashed. Posts, Nines, Seam Benders, all of these can be called because of Toy’s ability to stretch the field, as well as his ability to track the ball against DBs. Toy can get busy in the short game. Curls, hitches can be called. You can even expect Toy to catch some bubble screens behind the LOS, he’s trustworthy with the ball in his hands. Harris and Toy unlock the offense’s potential.
Kyren Staples Kyren Staples 6’3″ | 285 lbs | OL Chester | 2024 PA is a kid I’m looking forward to seeing back on the field in time. Zane Tillery Zane Tillery 5’9″ | 310 lbs | DL Chester | 2025 State PA might play a role in the trenches, however. Left guard reps on tape last year, as well as some presumably nose guard reps. Thick kid who can clog holes up on both sides of the ball. Expect him to do exactly that this year.
Yet another top-25 ranked prospect at Chester’s disposal, one who is equally gifted, if not moreso, than Jalen Harris Jalen Harris 6’1″ | 170 lbs | QB Chester | 2026 State PA or Dominic Toy Dominic Toy 6’5″ | 225 lbs | TE Chester | 2024 State PA . Daron Harris Daron Harris 6’3″ | DB Chester | 2026 State PA , twin brother to Jalen Harris Jalen Harris 6’1″ | 170 lbs | QB Chester | 2026 State PA , is a kid Chester can deploy at any position in the secondary. I love the idea of letting him play in single-high sets at safety, letting him roam and play with his natural instincts. Elite ball skills that show up on both sides of the field, Daron Harris Daron Harris 6’3″ | DB Chester | 2026 State PA exemplifies a natural playmaker as a back-end safety. Real range if attacked vertically, a threat to take interceptions, and fumbles the distance any time he gets the opportunity to do so. Utilized in trick plays often, because why not? Harris is ranked as the third-best athlete in his class, high praise considering some of the competition surrounding him. The only position I’d be surprised to see Harris align would be OL and DL, he’s that versatile. You’ll have fun watching his future sophomore tape.
I can’t help but be excited about DeAndre Pee DeAndre Pee 6’2″ | 160 lbs | DL Chester | 2026 State PA ‘s potential. Considering I had the chance to watch Dominic Toy Dominic Toy 6’5″ | 225 lbs | TE Chester | 2024 State PA blossom into the prospect he is today, I can’t help but think Pee could also grow in a similar fashion, as an EDGE/OLB, that is. Promising height at 6’2 and some change, Pee has plenty of room to grow under his pads in terms of weight, yet the young man is still countering tackles and fighting his way through engagements as if he were 220 and some change. Now, that’s showing up on very limited tape. I’d be more excited to stamp him if said tape was 2-3 minutes longer. Real production, as well as improvements in the weight room and you could be hearing of an incredible pass-rushing duo in Toy and Pee out of Chester HS.
La’Meer Powell
La’Meer Powell
Lameer Powell is a kid who, I believe, is headed back to Chester/Stem Academy to play his senior year back in Delco. Powell spent a season working at Milton Hershey, doing what he does best at LB for the MHS program. With numerous quality linebackers graduating out of the Chester class of 2023, Powell suiting up for Chester should help alleviate some of the issues that come with a ton of roster turnover, especially considering Powell is used to the coaching staff. Excited to see what he has in store this coming Fall.
Nahree Melvin
Nahree Melvin
Nahree Melvin is expected to have a breakout year at corner. I didn’t get the opportunity to dissect his game, as I couldn’t find a season tape out of the young man. I know this is for certain, the Chester coaching staff have never led me astray in terms of kids who are working to shine on the field. Apparently, Melvin is one of them. His work at corner, along with Harris manning the backend, could be fun to watch this Fall.
Jerrell Palmer Jerrell Palmer 5'9" | 205 lbs | LB Chester | 2026 State PA
Jerrell Palmer Jerrell Palmer 5'9" | 205 lbs | LB Chester | 2026 State PA
I can present the same sentiment for 2026 sophomore Jerrell Palmer Jerrell Palmer 5’9″ | 205 lbs | LB Chester | 2026 State PA . The young man doesn’t have tape to check out, yet the coaching staff is adamant that Palmer is poised to have a breakout year. I find it exciting that the staff is pushing an underclass. I’m looking forward to adding both Melvin and Palmer to my 2025 and 2026 rankings at some point down the line.
