From defending champions, to top contenders and plenty of dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A, all the way down to the addition of 8-man coverage this year with Class B and C. In this post, we take a look at the Dewar Dragons.
Dewar Dragons
Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #3
Preseason Coaches Ranking: #2
The Dewar Dragons are a top five team in Class B heading into the 2023 football season and they’re looking to build off a solid 2022 campaign that came to an end abruptly in the quarterfinal round. Dewar had an unbeaten regular season and they were never really tested as they dominated throughout the non-district slate and then the district schedule. The majority of their regular season games were decided early as the offense would score at least 50 points in six out of eight games. And the defense was stout as well as they didn’t give up more than 14 points during the regular season. The Dragons continued to dominate on the offensive side of the ball when they playoffs began. They would score nearly 80 points in the first round and then put up nearly 70 points in the second round. But then they ran into Oklahoma Bible Academy in the quarterfinal round and they were shut out 46-0. But as we look ahead to the 2023 football season, the Dragons are loading up for another dominant regular season and then when the playoffs begin, anything can happen at that point.
The Dragons were a consensus top five team in the preseason rankings to start the season and when we look at their schedule, it looks like they will be the favorites in their district once again and it won’t be surprising to see them go unbeaten in the regular season. Four starters return on the offensive side of the ball, including one of the top running backs in Class B. They have to replace some key pieces on that side of the ball but as we’ve learned in 8-man football, if you have at least one player that can produce at a high level, you’re going to have a chance to be one of the top teams in the class. And on the defensive side of the ball, they bring back the majority of their starters with five returning from last year’s team. And the strength of this unit is going to be up front as they have an incredibly disruptive player on the defensive line returning to this year’s team. But the biggest question will be how the Dragons play in November and potentially December. They were one of the more dominant teams in Class B last season but they fell short in the playoffs. They want to avoid history repeating itself this fall and contend for the state championship once again.

Players To Watch
We start with the defensive side of the ball and the Dragons have a dominant force right up on the line of scrimmage. 2024 defensive lineman Kade Henderson Kade Henderson 6’3″ | DL Dewar | 2024 OK was one of the more productive defensive linemen in Class B last season and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do this season. Henderson would finish his junior season with 20 sacks on the year and 26 tackles for loss. He lived in opposing backfields and it was not easy to put points on the scoreboard against this Dewar defense. The Dragons are hoping that with Henderson back up front along the defensive line, they can take their game to another level and really shut down some of the top offenses in Class B. In the high scoring game of 8-man football, having a game-changer like Henderson makes a difference.
As excited as we are to see what Henderson can do on the defensive side of the ball, this Dewar offense is going to dominate in the run game and 2024 running back
Nevin Corbin

is going to lead the way. Corbin would finish with well over 1,700 yards and nearly 40 touchdowns on the ground last season. He was without a doubt one of the top rushers in Class B and in 8-man football overall. He’s going to come into this season as one of the top backs in the class and we won’t be surprised if Corbin expands on his production and has an even better senior season. And if he’s able to do that, don’t be surprised if the Dragons are playing deep into November and into December. The goal is to win the state championship and with a player like Corbin, the Dragons are going to have a really good chance.

Sept. 8 – AT Snyder
Sept. 15 – Depew
Sept. 22 – AT Arkoma
Sept. 29 – Velma-Alma
– As we mentioned earlier in the preview, the Dragons look like they could very well see another unbeaten regular season. But without a doubt the toughest game on the schedule is going to come in week five at the halfway point of the year. The Dragons will host Velma-Alma in a match-up that puts two top five teams against each other. Both teams expect to contend for the state championship this season and we’ll know a lot more about each team after they face off in this non-district clash. If Dewar gets a win here, the Dragons will take a massive amount of momentum into district play.

Oct. 19 – Quinton
Oct. 27 – AT Midway
Nov. 3 – AT Caddo
Notable
The Dragons have been one of the top teams in Class B over the last five seasons and the records back that up. You have to go all the way back to September 28, 2018 to find the last time the Dragons lost in the regular season. Starting with the 2019 season, they’ve had four consecutive years where they’ve brought an unbeaten record into the playoffs. But the Dragons aren’t going to be satisfied with more regular season success. The Dragons want to return to contending for the state championship. They made it all the way to the title game and beat Laverne in 2020. Since then, the Tigers have been on top of Class B, winning the last two state championships. Dewar hopes to see a fifth consecutive unbeaten regular season and then the focus shifts to dethroning Laverne on top of Class B. They’ve definitely been one of the more consistent teams in the class over the last few years and they want to end this year with more hardware.
