Continue ReadingOld-school, pocket passing QBs are seemingly a lost art. Nowadays, the QB is not only in charge of leading the playmakers around him, but he also has to be a playmaker himself to some degree. These guys take the term “playmaker” to another level in regards to QBs.
Marvis Parrish – 2024 – Lowndes
Parrish is the definition of an athlete playing the QB position. While he is certainly capable of throwing the ball downfield, his damage is done with his legs. Parrish is a very shifty and creative runner. He operates confidently in more contested areas and has the body control to navigate through traffic while maintaining his balance. He has noticeable acceleration. Once he finds an opening, he can shoot into the second and third levels in the blink of an eye. His mobility also allows him to dart away from pass rushers and give himself more time to operate. Parrish is a D1 athlete playing the QB position. Regardless of where he ends up, he has the chance to develop into a versatile playmaker.
Corey Randle – 2024 – Monroe
Randle is another example of an elite athlete playing the QB spot. However, he also has some pretty impressive marksmanship and could play the QB level competitively at the next level. Although he has noticeable athleticism and is a threat to score in the open field, Randle looks collected in the pocket and shows good mechanics. When he does have to run, he is extremely tough to stop. With his wiry frame and flexibility, he can bend around tacklers and spring off his feet to scoot around the defense. Randle is extremely slippery, even the best tacklers have trouble bringing him down. He is a great athlete with good speed, acceleration, and flexibility in his lower body. He also has high upside and has yet to play his best football.
Nate Hayes – 2024 – Effingham County
For an explosive runner, Hayes had himself a pretty productive season in the air. Much like his athleticism, Hayes has a fast, twitchy release that allows him to get the ball out in a hurry. I like the multiple different throws on tape. He can drive the ball, but also put some touch on it and allow his receiver to make a play. As you could expect, Hayes is a very gifted athlete with the speed and explosiveness to score on any given play with his legs. However, he seperates himself from the rest of the pack with his patience. He does an outstanding job of letting his blocks develop and get downfield. Once he finds that opening in the secondary, he has the speed to finish. Hayes is another sleeper prospect that could play all over the field, including the QB spot.
Luke Marble – 2024 – Centennial
Most of the QBs on this list are the shorter QBs that skate around the field. Marble is not. Instead, he is a taller QB at 6’4 with long, powerful strides. Marble has the profile and tools to make some noise on the trail over his senior year. He has the arm strength to rip the ball downfield even when off-balanced. His speed and creativity when the play breaks down is easily the most noticeable part of his tape. Most defenders understandably try to size him up and go low, but he makes them miss with his sneaky lateral mobility. Marble might not have the twitchiness of some on this list. However, he is deceptively fast and can easily seperate from the defense once he finds an opening.
Michael Johnson Michael Johnson 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Dutchtown | 2026 State GA – 2026 – Dutchtown
Johnson started as a freshman for Dutchtown and flashed some serious potential. Part of the reason for his immediate success on the varsity scene is thanks to his ability to change up his arm angle, throw off platform, and drive the ball downfield. We can attribute those qualities to his baseball background. However, he is also a prolific rusher that can change the course of the game with his legs. Johnson is an explosive athlete that can do from 0-100 in a hurry. Almost like an RB in the open field, Johnson runs exceptionally hard with the intention of scoring on any given play. He doesn’t shy away from contact, when he tucks the ball to run, his goal is to score. Johnson is a gifted athlete with solid marksmanship who should develop into a FBS QB prospect.
