Today, we will continue positional breakdowns of some of the most explosive returners. After looking at some of the top rising senior quarterbacks, here’s my list of some elite level wide receiver talents in Tennessee to watch for this upcoming season.
Highlights
At the top of my list of standouts is Markeis Barrett Markeis Barrett 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Knox. Webb | 2024 State TN , a 6-foot-1, 175-pound wide receiver at Knoxville Webb High School. Barrett was one of the most explosive offensive weapons on the Spartans’ roster during his junior stint of high school football last year. What makes Barrett so unstoppable down the stretch is his overall speed, physical playstyle and ability to get open for deep passes. Barrett doesn’t mess around down the stretch and in the redzone, utilizing his toughness to bully the defensive backs in the backfield to buy himself time and space to make catches. With an excellent wing span and the ability to elevate himself off the ground to make receptions, the rising senior out of Knoxville, TN. is a highly versatile wide receiver talent in the Volunteer State to watch for this upcoming season. Barrett is currently committed to Vanderbilt.

Finishing in the number two spot on my list is Dillon Lorick Dillon Lorick 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Lipscomb Acad. | 2024 State TN , a 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver at Lipscomb Academy. Lorick made a huge impact on the offensive side of the ball during his junior season of high school football with the Mustangs last year. What stands out most about Lorick’s game is his overall size, speed and impressive footwork, proving himself as an easy and reliable target for his quarterback. Lorick plays quick off the snap and consistently tricks the defensive backs into thinking he’s going long using his deceptive footwork. The rising senior out of Nashville, TN. additionally impresses with his overall physicality and toughness down the stretch as he can break tackles, muscle past defenders and force his way into the endzone. Lorick will definitely be a receiver in Tennessee to keep an eye on next season. Lorick is committed to Eastern Carolina University.
Claiming a third place finish is Brandon Winton Jr., a 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver at Alcoa High School. Winton was one of the most impactful offensive talents on the Tornadoes’ roster during his junior stint of high school football last season. What stands out most about Winton is his his size, speed and explosiveness down the stretch. Winton consistently showcased his ability to make quick catches off the snap as he blasts past the defense into the open field. Winton’s physicality additionally impressed me as he consistently utilized his toughness to slip past defensive coverage last season. With nearly unstoppable speed and a great wing span, the rising senior out of Alcoa, TN. is an intriguing wide receiver in the state to watch for next season. Winton is committed to the University of South Florida.

At number four on my list of standouts is D’Arious Reed D’Arious Reed 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Pearl Cohn | 2024 State TN , a 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver at Pearl Cohn High School. Reed made a huge difference on the offensive side of the ball during his junior season of high school football with the Firebirds last year. What stands out most about Reed’s game is his excellent speed, versatility and toughness down the stretch, showcasing unmatched quickness and the ability to both outrun and overpower defensive backs. Reed’s explosiveness made him one of the more reliable passing targets on his team even under heavy defensive pressure. The rising senior out of Nashville, TN. will definitely be a wide receiver talent from the state of Tennessee to watch for next season.

At number five on my list is Carlos Orr Carlos Orr 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR Gatlinburg-Pittman | 2024 State TN , a 6-foot-4, 185-pound wide receiver at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. Orr was without question one of the strongest offensive weapons on the Highlanders’ roster during his junior stint of high school football last year. In addition to impressive size and speed down the stretch, what stands out most about Orr is his versatility and route-running ability. Orr showcased his ability to juke defenders with his solid footwork, use bursts of speed to pick up major yards and consistently utilize his toughness to escape tackles. The rising senior out of Gatlinburg, TN. will definitely be an interesting wide receiver talent from the Volunteer State to keep an eye on next season. Orr is committed to the University of Illinois.

Coming in at six place on my list of standouts is Boyd Brown Boyd Brown 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR FRA | 2024 State TN , a 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver at Franklin Road Academy. Brown was one of the most efficient offensive weapons on the Panthers’ roster during his junior year of high school football. In addition to excellent size, speed and explosiveness down the stretch, what stands out most about Brown’s game is his ability to haul in deep passes in heavy coverage, utilizing his strength and athleticism to bob, weave and jump around defenders to make plays. Brown additionally impresses me with his route-running ability, muscling past defenders as he moves into the open field with the ball. The rising senior out of Nashville, TN. is certainly a wide receiver talent from the state to keep an eye on this upcoming season.
