Continue ReadingST PAUL– We move our big week of camp focus over to the University of St. Thomas, where the Tommies hosted 130+ prospects on campus for a Friday night camp at O’Shaughnessy Stadium in which we got to watch a plethora of prospects within that group. Much like our Minnesota Camp content, this will be a multiple part series over the coming day or so, as we shed light on who we thought stood-out from around the Midwest while camping with the Pioneer League’s 2023 champions. This first list has 2025s from Wisconsin and Minnesota with high levels of upside, 2024s I would offer right now, and one of the most athletic and poised quarterbacks I got to watch at the Tommies camp on Friday night.
Ryan was the first prospect that popped out to me at the St. Thomas prospect camp on Friday, due to his athletic mobility and swift change of direction he showed off in the early drills in St. Paul. He showed off plenty of agile footwork in those early reps and not the tallest QB you have ever seen, showed off a solid frame with great hip flexibility showing off that this young man has some dual-threat capability at the QB position. When I got to watch Ryan in Indy drills, he showed off efficient and quick progressions thru his reads with an extremely quick release that showed off efficent touch on his ball on all three levels going into 1v1s. When you watch Ryan’s junior tape, you quickly see the escape mobility this young man has outside of the pocket as he has the football IQ to turn a nothing play into a touchdown real quick with his ability to escape and buy more time as he also shows great arm strength throwing from the run. He also showed off great precision on his deeper routes in my eyes as Ryan has picked up two offers since Friday with one being the Tommies.
Highlights
When you get a look at White Bear Lake 2025 WR Tyrese Behnken Tyrese Behnken 6’0″ | ATH White Bear Lake | 2025 MN from the eye test, you can quickly tell how athletically gifted he is with his frame alone as Tyrese showed off fluid agility and great balance with controlling his body from the early reps I watched at the St. Thomas camp on Friday night. When I got to watch Tyrese during the triple jump on Friday, he enlightened me with his jackrabbit quick instincts with those agile feet I mentioned earlier. At 6’2 195 pounds, Tyrese still has some raw skillsets that will need growing over the next two seasons, but the ceiling this young man has when he puts those skillsets together is going to be one to watch out of the Twin Cities metro in the 2025 class based on his body type and athleticism.
Ben Thorman
Ben Thorman
Ben was a defensive end prospect that caught my eyes on numerous occasions from start towards the end of the St. Thomas prospect camp starting with his balance he showed off within the early reps of the Tommies camp. This young man carries a heck of a motor with him on every rep and plays with that blue collar mentality you are looking for in the trenches of the defensive line. At 6’2 220 pounds Ben also certainly passes the eye test, and I loved watching how well he finished his reps on Friday night in St. Paul as this young man plays with a heck of high amount of energy at his disposal. Cannot say enough about Ben’s character either, as this young man would be a joy to have in a college locker room. His tape shows off a really strong first step to the ball and plays with great football IQ getting into mesh of the ball carrier within a quick span of time. He needs some development with getting off his blocks quicker and with more technique, however, with this kid’s work ethic you can assure he will work his tail off to improve those skillsets quickly.
Isaiah Tisdle
Isaiah Tisdle
If I had to dish out a running back MVP on Friday night in St. Paul at the St. Thomas camp, my vote would be for Woodbury 2024 Isaiah Tisdle. Even from the first early reps I watched Isaiah, I loved watching how big of a bounce of agility he had in his hips and he wasn’t done showing that off yet the deeper we got into camp. His fluidity in his reps from start to finish were excellent to watch up close as he played with an edgy demeanor that brought his A-game from what I took in. I can assure you that from start to finish of the Tommies camp, Isaiah got better by the end of camp, which showed off to me a running back prospect with a quick learning curve when you give him a chance continue to develop his future skillsets at the next-level. When you roll the tape, you certainly can see Isaiah has been working hard this offseason, as I thought his twitch on Friday night was more even more explosive from his junior tape. I would offer Isaiah immediately if I was a college recruiter as his explosiveness at that size is hard to come by at the running back position.
Jake Dugger
Jake Dugger
Jake was a Chicago area defensive back prospect that caught my eyes at the St. Thomas Camp on Friday night. It may be an overused word I use during camp season evaluations, however Jake was a 2024 prospect out of Brother Rice that offered a plethora of “fluidity” and in my eyes, had one of the best finishing abilities during the county fair session amongst the defensive back group I got to watch and did in with more size at 6’2 180 than some of the other defensive backs. The tape you will find on Jake, shows similarities to what we saw in County Fair at camp, this kid is built to finish as his tape shows that quickly, as Jake can cover a long range as a free safety to cut off the ball effectively from the wide receiver in stride. He also has a self verified 36 inch vertical which when you look at his tape, you can see on a handful of reps where that height Jake can get adds up. I also love Jake’s visual instincts with his read-steps as he can press up quickly into the first level and give the linebacking core another asset with Jake’s athleticism ability upfront. Jake would be another 2024 prospect on this list I would offer right now.
Asa Poister
Asa Poister
Asa was a Wisconsin prospect from the 920 area code that caught my eyes at the St. Thomas Camp. He showed off a long defensive end at 6’5 215 pounds that showed off intriguing hip flexibility for his size and an athletic bend when I watched him within the early drills of the camp on Friday night in St. Paul. From the few reps I watched Asa later in camp, he showed off a prospect that is still growing into his body and learning how to use it with the frame he has but the athleticism is certainly there for the taking in his football future as a 2025 prospect. He showed off some explosion in his broad jump and 40-yard dash as well, but we will need to get some junior tape from Asa to circle back to follow up how he develops into the 2023 fall season.
