Providence, East Lincoln and Parkwood came down from the Tar Heel State to take part as well.
Spartanburg’s JV team came away with the win over Catawba Ridge in the championship game.
Here are standouts from each Palmetto State team in today’s 7-on-7:
Trey Burke | QB | Spartanburg
Burke has an impressive arm and he showed good pocket presence early. He waited for the routes to develop and didn’t force the ball into coverage. He can let the ball fly, like he did on a post route or he’ll check it down to the back and keep the chains moving.
Spartanburg coach Grey Ramsey on Burke: “Trey is an unbelievable player. He’s going to be a guy that continues to fight for that spot. You’ve got TJ, who is the elder statesman of the group. He wasn’t here today and I challenged Trey from the beginning. You’ve got an opportunity to go lead a program, lead your team today and he did a phenomenal job.”
Zy’Kevius Williams Bonds | WR | Spartanburg
Bonds can absolutely fly, like when he caught a skinny post for a touchdown early on. We saw him during the championship game make a diving catch with a defender in his face, demonstrating great concentration.
Preston Cooper | WR | Catawba Ridge
You don’t know the name now, but you will in 2023. This is only his second year playing football and he is tough to guard in the slot. He is shifty and has great hands catching the ball from CJ Couch, who took the starting snaps for the Copperheads during the session.
Sheldon Crawford | WR | Catawba Ridge
Catawba Ridge coach Zac Lendyak says Crawford is one of the best players on the team. He has world class speed and catches everything that comes his way, like a catch to the left corner for a touchdown.
Matthew Wilson Matthew Wilson 6'1" | 200 lbs | QB Rock Hill | 2024 State SC | QB | Rock Hill
The App State commit continues to show off his incredible arm strength and puts the ball where only his receiver can go to catch it. He put a ball on the money to Zach Jackson for a touchdown during the afternoon session.
Ross Switzer | QB | South Pointe
Switzer is an excellent game manager as the JV quarterback and won’t force the throws that aren’t there. We saw one throw where he checked it down, which allowed the receiver to turn it up field for some extra yards.
John Henry Collins | QB | Blythewood
Collins made a great connection to the running back during the afternoon session on a wheel route and put it where only he could get it.
