With SCHSL football spread over five classifications and 36 regions, the talent pool in South Carolina is as vast as it is diverse.

We're going to tackle it unlike ever before.

The Prep Red Zone South Carolina team is going to predict every team's MVP for the 2023 football season. Over the next several weeks, you're going to be able to read about which player is leading the way for his team. We'll even give you a whole bunch of highlight films to back up our predictions.

Are you ready?

REGION I-2A

Abbeville Panthers

[player_tooltip player_id='996874' first='Jaevion' last='Harris'] DL

Harris is massive at 6-1, 285. He's also quick and athletic enough to play outside and powerful enough to more than hold his own in the middle. He might have been one of 2A's best-kept secrets last season, but anyone who saw his eight tackle, two sack, two TFL, one forced fumble performance in the state title game knows he's a monster.

Blacksburg Wildcats

Josh Sims, QB

As Blacksburg transitions to a high-octane spread offense, all eyes will be on QB Josh Sims. The rising junior was injured last year, and now will try to establish himself at the helm of Blacksburg's new-look offense.

Chesnee Eagles

Kyle Martin ATH

Martin had the rarest of beginnings to his varsity career, scoring a TD - a pick-six - on his first varsity snap. After battling an injury last year, he'll be back and expected to contribute in a big way as the Eagles shift to a spread-option offensive attack. Martin plays RB, WR, DB, and returns kicks, and is a major key for what Chesnee wants to do.

Landrum Cardinals

Colton Link RB

Link was a beast last year in the Cardinals' run-heavy offense, racking up more than 1,200 yards, rushing for more than 120 a game, and scoring 19 touchdowns. His skill set should transition well to new coach Brent Bridges' spread offense, and Link could be a major problem for opposing defenses.

Liberty Red Devils

Skylar Teague LB

Teague is a tall, rangy linebacker at 6-4, and runs a 4.7 40. He was a force for the Red Devils last season, and if he can add some weight to his 180-pound frame, he can be a standout on the defensive side for Liberty.

Ninety Six Wildcats

Braden Mitchell QB

Mitchell has looked good in 7-on-7 action for the Wildcats this summer, and is adapting well to new head coach Mat Bennett's system. He'll be crucial to Ninety Six's success this season.
