The summer is off to a hot start, with several players and teams attending camps. One camp going on here in Omaha is the Locker Room camp, featuring several area football teams competing in scrimmages.

I attended today's scrimmages featuring Omaha North vs. Omaha Central and Omaha Burke, Ralston, and Omaha Westview rotated positions on offense and defense. Overall I left impressed by players that were already established, players making strides, and some completely new names that wowed. Check out my quick notes from today's scrimmages.

- The Omaha North defense could shape up to be one of the best in Class A. Even missing some players, the North defense was loaded with talent with names like [player_tooltip player_id='245889' first='Donovan' last='Jones'], [player_tooltip player_id='245820' first='Nolan' last='Venner'], [player_tooltip player_id='487794' first='Champ' last='Davis'], S'Marious Henderson, [player_tooltip player_id='487609' first='BJ' last='Louis'], [player_tooltip player_id='305112' first='Titan' last='Glassman'],

- The Omaha Central defensive line looked very solid today. Showing the ability to stop the run and apply QB pressure. Their size was impressive, with a good mix of powerful, big men like Jerry Jackson Jr, [player_tooltip player_id='415238' first='Stephen' last='Owusu'], Osborn Simpson, and Ronnie Graham.

- NAME TO KNOW: Omaha North DB Maurice Sherrod is going to open some eyes this season. He played for North a few seasons ago before moving to Texas last year and moving back for his senior season. He's a D1-level cornerback who just picked up an Alabama A&M offer and should continue to rise this summer.

- The Bulldogs definitely looked more experienced already. The OL and defense were communicating very well and brought intensity with every one of their possessions. Transfer addition [player_tooltip player_id='250694' first='Jesus' last='Estrada'] looked very impressive today. He had several pancake blocks and brought a mean streak to the OL.

- Central DL/EDGE Marlon Jones is going to be a name to watch out for. At 6'7" and 225, he has excellent length and athleticism off the edge. Led the Eagles in sacks as a rotational player last season, and it was his first season playing football. MASSIVE upside.

- Westview QB Luke Shaffar looks ready to have a breakout season. He showed several flashes of his arm talent, including a very impressive deep touchdown.

- Central Junior DE/TE [player_tooltip player_id='318987' first='Ike' last='Ackerman'] looks like a beast. Right off the bat, he looked noticeably taller and stronger. Even with the added size, he still looked like a great athlete on the field, with tons of explosiveness coming off the ball and aggressiveness with his pursuit.

- I didn't get to watch the first-team Ralston offense today, but the two underclassmen QBs, [player_tooltip player_id='1114621' first='Landen' last='Buechler'] and another QB whose name I didn't catch, each led scoring drives.

- QB [player_tooltip player_id='487569' first='BJ' last='Newsome'] is going to have an embarrassment of riches at receiver. [player_tooltip player_id='398153' first='Marcellous' last='Lloyd'], [player_tooltip player_id='318990' first='Aamir' last='Hill'], Andrew & Jordan Brown, [player_tooltip player_id='318989' first='Alijah' last='Wayne'], and [player_tooltip player_id='318987' first='Ike' last='Ackerman'] are now joined by Benson transfers [player_tooltip player_id='212372' first='DaShawn' last='Prince'], [player_tooltip player_id='487795' first='Avry' last='Harris'], [player_tooltip player_id='305110' first='Anthony' last='Liggins'], [player_tooltip player_id='326866' first='DJ' last='Sterling']. I'm probably still leaving out quite a few playmakers too.

- Burke C Joey Myers was another OL that looked great today. He used his hands and leverage very well while also being very physical. Joey was also a vocal leader when the team needed one.
