Jones Wins USF Sling & Shoot 1

TAMPA - When Orlando Jones headed to the University of South Florida for the annual Sling & Shoot 7-on-7 event, the Tigers felt they had the talent to win.
When they beat Rockledge in the final on Saturday, 48-20, head coach Elijah Williams' team did exactly what they set out to do.
After finishing the 2022 season 11-3, losing to eventual 3M state runner up Homestead, 30-24, the off season was committed to getting another opportunity to reach the state title game.
With a competitive field on hand for the first of two Sling & Shoot 7-on-7 events this weekend, USF first year head coach Alex Golesh and his staff rolled out the red carpet for teams and linemen, who also had the chance to compete and learn with offensive coach Tyler Hudanick and defensive line coach Kevin Patrick and their staffs paving the way for a well-run event.
In addition to Jones and Rockledge, the final eight teams also featured Oviedo, Tampa Plant, Wesley Chapel Wiregrass Ranch, Ocala Forest, Seffner Armwood and Tampa Gaither. Jones beat Wiregrass Ranch, Oviedo knocked off Forest, Plant beat Gaither and Rockledge beat Armwood.
With the final four set, Rockledge got by Plant and Jones beat Oviedo.
In addition to those eight teams, the first day also included Valrico Bloomingdale, Tarpon Springs East Lake, Gainesville, Daytona Beach Mainland, St. Petersburg Northeast, Seffner Christian, Riverview Sumner, Tampa Wharton, Tampa Blake, Brooksville Hernando, Lakeland Lake Gibson, Lake Minneola, New Port Richey Mitchell and Dover Strawberry Crest.
JONES TO DEFEND TITLE SUNDAY
The Tigers will have a short time to celebrate their Sling & Shoot title. They will be right back at it on Sunday, joining another crowded and competitive field.
Among the schools headed to Tampa on Sunday will be Tampa Alonso, Naples Barron Collier, North Palm Beach Benjamin, Fort Myers Bishop Verot, Clearwater Calvary Christian, West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman, Tampa Carrollwood Day, Clearwater, Orlando Colonial, state 3S champion Lake Wales, Lecanto, Brooksville Nature Coast, Plant City, Riverview, Tampa Robinson, Lantana Santaluces, Seminole, Tampa Sickles, South Fort Myers, Ocala Vanguard, Vero Beach, Apopka Wekiva, Winter Garden West Orange, Wildwood, Winter Park, Zephyrhills and Zephyrhills Christian.
Tarpon Springs East Lake and Lake Minneola will also be back for Day 2.
