Household names such as former No.1 overall NFL draft pick and current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, have made this team and event a special one. The evaluators and coaching staff that put together the Georgia Future Stars do a great job of balancing skill sets and showcasing what the future of football will look like. Here’s a look at the prospects listed as Running Backs’s and Athlete’s on this year’s seventh grade (class of 2028) team.
There is a ton of excitement about what Lawson brings to the table in terms of versatility for this Georgia Future Stars 7th Grade Team. During the South Georgia Tryout, at which he won MVP, Lawson showed the ability to play anywhere from quarterback to wide receiver on offense and linebacker or in the secondary on defense. On the roster at 5-foot-11 and 172 pounds, he’s an important chess piece for Georgia and watching where he lines up will be intriguing.
The second “ATH” listed on the roster for the Georgia Future Stars 7th Grade Team is Ayden Robinson Ayden Robinson 6’0″ | 165 lbs | ATH GA , who attended the Savannah tryout and was in consideration for MVP. On the roster at 6-foot and 166 pounds, the Athlete position is probably the best fit for a kid with his size and athletic ability. Also a talented basketball player, Robinson recorded the second fastest forty of all 2028 athletes who tried out for the Future Stars with a 4.97. He also finished with the third best shuttle at the Savannah Tryout and 19th overall with a 4.8. I’m yet to see him play live, but I’m excited to.
Moving to the running back position, Savannah Christian Prep’s Bubba McMullen was selected for the second year in a row. McMullen was selected to the sixth-grade team last year as a Defensive Back and also played special teams in the Future Stars Game(s), but moves to the offensive side of the ball this year. He earned the selection by winning the Savannah Tryout MVP for the second year in a row. He’s a multi-sport athlete that gives up a lot of size at just 5-foot-2 and 111 pounds, but is a proven playmaker.
The second player listed on the roster as a running back is Zion Ellison, who showed out at the Middle Georgia Tryout. Unlike McMullen, Ellison is new to the Future Stars Team this year and I’m excited to watch him play live. He must have done something spectacular at the tryout, as he earned a “Red Ticket” and automatic invite to the team. On film he shows exceptional quickness and agility when hitting the hole. Already has a well-developed jump cut and the vision to go along with it. The 5-foot-4, 140-pound Taylor County Middle Schooler could become the workhorse back for this group.
