Continue ReadingNotre Dame boasts one of, if not the, most talented 2024 recruiting classes in the nation to date. In terms of the offensive lineman class, Notre Dame secured the top Pennsylvania linemen prospect not named J’ven Williams, that being Malvern Prep’s Peter Jones Peter Jones 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA . Peter Jones Peter Jones 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA was the first lineman to put pen to paper, since his August commitment, Notre Dame landed verbals out of Indiana’s own Styles Prescod and Georgia’s Anthonie Knapp. The prestigous program led by Head Coach Marcus Freeman will bring in 3 four-star linemen prospects with plenty of time to add to the stable.
Highlights
Head Coach James Franklin and staff have put together a wonderful 2024 offensive lineman class through the first week of June. Before we dip our toe into Pennsylvania lineman commits, it’s worth noting the out-of-state success the program has had in the Mid-West, as well as down South. Going back to April of this year, Penn State secured commitments from two Wisconsin prospects, those being Catholic Memorial’s Donovan Harbour, as well as Arrowhead’s Garrett Sexton. Losing Heywood and Cory to Wisconsin this week doesn’t hurt as bad when taking this perspective. Sexton and Harbour are both 4-star recruits.
Penn State also landed Eagan Boyer out of North Carolina in the same month. Within the week, PSU landed Deryc Plazz out of Jacksonville, Florida. This class alone is enough to stack up against Big10 counterparts. Let’s add the two PA lineman staying home, those being McDowell’s Cooper Cousins Cooper Cousins 6’6″ | 310 lbs | OL McDowell | 2024 State PA and Wyomissing’s Caleb Brewer Caleb Brewer 6’5″ | 285 lbs | OL Wyomissing | 2024 State PA . You can make an easy argument for Cooper Cousins Cooper Cousins 6’6″ | 310 lbs | OL McDowell | 2024 State PA being the best in the class. The soon-to-be senior committed to PSU in January of last year. Caleb Brewer Caleb Brewer 6’5″ | 285 lbs | OL Wyomissing | 2024 State PA is the wild-card of the group. How will PSU mold this clay? How will Brewer, a still growing prospect, develop under the PSU developing umbrella? It could make or break their OL class if the program fails to add additional tackle prospects.
Highlights
The powerhouse program known for building and developing elite lineman, many of which make the leap to the highest level, the Wisconsin Badgers led by Head Coach Luke Fickell. Badger fans might’ve been a bit nervous for quite a bit, considering two phenomenal in-state talents in Harbour and Sexton announced their commitments to PSU. Losing out on those kids hurt, especially with only one lineman prospect in possession at the time. The lone commitment came from Sexton teammate Derek Jensen, a stand-out in his own right. Jensen was the sole tackle commit before Wisconsin landed both Kevin Heywood Kevin Heywood 6’7″ | 300 lbs | OL Pope John Paul II | 2024 State PA and Ryan Cory Ryan Cory 6’4″ | 285 lbs | OL Pine-Richland | 2024 State PA within the week. A huge haul that more than makes up for missing on the home-grown talent. Both Cory and Heywood rank inside the top five on our lists, both being heavily recruited from programs across the country, in particulary of course, the Big10. The Badgers bounce back and boast a great three some rigth now. Wondering who else they will add in the coming weeks.
Kansas State enters in the PA sweepstakes, adding Downingtown West’s Ryan Howard Ryan Howard 6’7″ | 300 lbs | OL Downingtown West | 2024 State PA back in January. The Kansas State recruiting class is growing steadily, recently adding Iowa lineman prospect Kyle Rakers over a week ago. Rakers makes the commit total jump to six for Kansas State, with Kansas’ own Gus Hawkins acting as the prized possession. Hawkins, Rakers, and our own Ryan Howard Ryan Howard 6’7″ | 300 lbs | OL Downingtown West | 2024 State PA make up the solid KSU 2024 lineman class. No recruit mentioned above holds a candle to Howard’s stature and skillset.
As I continue to cover the commitments across the state, Piitsburgh will be a frequent mention. Their 2024 recruiting class includes names like Jahsear Whittington Jahsear Whittington 6’1″ | 280 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA , Ty Yuhas Ty Yuhas 6’4″ | 250 lbs | DL Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2024 State PA , and Juelz Goff Juelz Goff 5’10” | 195 lbs | RB Central York | 2024 State PA to name a few. I won’t get into them here, I will dive into what the 2024 OL room might look like. Let’s begin with a commitment just three days old, that coming from DeMatha Catholic’s Mason Lindsay. Lindsay is just under 6’7, ranked a bit lower on other sites than his tape suggests. Pitt is in good favor there, now add Downingtown East’s Adham Abouraya Adham Abouraya 6’5″ | 280 lbs | OL Downingtown East | 2024 State PA and Cathedral Prep’s Jiavani Cooley Jiavani Cooley 6’6″ | 265 lbs | OL Cathedral Prep | 2024 State PA . Cooley, close to Pitt culture out Western PA, was a surprise commitment considering how quiet the young man is on social media. Hard to track what he’s got going on. Both Abouraya and Cooley announced their commitments shortly after visits to Pitt back in March. This twosome stacks up nearly as well as the pairs Wisconsin and Penn State put brought in, at least when keeping an in-state perspective.
