Continue ReadingWith the start of the season just a few months away, one of the top teams in the state at the 5A level over the last ½ decade has been the Dallas Dragons. They have quietly been incredibly consistent, ranking in the top 10 for the last four years straight under Head coach Andy Jackson.
This year could be their best yet, as they return numerous all conference athletes with size who were wildly successful in 2022. Dallas’ makes no secret about the fact that they will look to run the ball down your throat. Last year’s squad averaged 370 yards per game on the ground with multiple individuals back who could help them do something similar.
Leadership on the offensive front will be key with 6-5 250-pound center Kyron Dodds returning after starting every game last season with a 100% snap accuracy. His size and overall athletic ability at the position is unique. He will make a nice jump on the rankings board when updated with his overall versatility being appealing. Fellow lineman Jacob Worley (6-2 250) started every contest at strong tackle for the Dragons where they ran power behind him. Both him and Dodds will project as all state lineman with their veteran leadership being crucial in the run heavy offense.
Many aren’t aware of 6-3 205-pound athlete Isaiah Mosley yet but will be. The all-conference WR had multiple 100+ yard rushing games as a wildcat QB and will likely get the ball often this coming season. Watch his film and you see a phenomenal overall athlete who could be a conference and state statistical leader.
Defensively, Dominic Sobota Dominic Sobota 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Dallas | 2024 State OR will be extremely influential after starting on both sides of the ball since his sophomore season. He will be a defensive player of the year candidate within the conference as Coach Jackson calls him, “The leader of our program”.
Speaking of player of the year candidates, 1st team all-league DE Steven Ward Steven Ward 6'0" | 220 lbs | LB Dallas | 2024 State OR (6-0 220) returns after leading 5A in sacks last season and making life miserable for opposing QB’s. He was off the charts impressive during the playoffs, running circles around 6-7 320-pound tackle Jace Eveland Jace Eveland 6'7" | 300 lbs | OL Redmond | 2025 State OR of Putnam, while accounting for 6 tackles for loss in their quarterfinal loss to Thurston.
In summary the Dragons play in the toughest 5A conference in Oregon and will have to beat the likes of Silverton and West Albany if they want to have a shot of making a run come the post season. Dallas is an outstanding football community with this years team having the potential of being one of their best ever.
A lot of credit to Coach Jackson who says in closing, “We have a handful of kids that are extremely strong, and I believe some of the top athletes in the state at their position, with many of them being multi-sport kids. We will have one of our strongest senior and junior classes coming up.”
