Today we will focus on Brooke County in the Northern Panhandle. Here are some prospects you need to keep an eye on in Brooke County for the 2023 season.
Braelyn Sperringer
Braelyn Sperringer
Kicking off the Brooke County 2023 preview is Brooke High School 2024 QB Braelyn Sperringer. Sperringer only played in five games last season due to injury and the offense was hindered when he wasn’t on the field. At 6’1 200, Sperringer is a good-sized QB prospect and flashed some athleticism and mobility to go with his size. He showed the ability to stay in the pocket and throw strikes to his receivers while also having the mobility to roll out of the pocket and throw on the run. Sperringer also showed good pocket presence and footwork in his dropbacks. While he’s not the type of QB to have ten designed runs a game or be considered a true dual-threat, he certainly has the mobility and speed to make defenders miss in the pocket and take off for solid gains.
With hopefully a full healthy senior year, we expect the 2024 Brooke QB to take his game to the next level and show growth in his development.
One of the backs that will see caries for Brooke High this year will be 2024 RB Gavin Moore Gavin Moore 5’10” | 175 lbs | RB Brooke | 2024 State WV . Moore saw himself share the load last season out of Brooke’s multiple back sets and had himself a solid year with 420 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. Brooke liked to get him outside and get to the corner on misdirection plays where he performed well. He showed nice speed and the ability to get outside and up the field quickly. Moore also has the ability to flex out to the slot and run routes if needed. He has adequate size to be a third down back at 5’10 175 and also started on the Bruins’ defense at safety where he could also play at the next level.
Anthony Bachinski
Anthony Bachinski
Anthony Bachinski is an all-around football player for his Brooke Bruins. He could play a number of positions at the next level and you can line him up at multiple spots on either side of the ball. If you watch his junior film, you’ll see him play some WR, Slot, TE/HB, DB and as a returner on kickoffs and punts. Bachinski is the type of player that if you’re a college football team you take him and figure out where he’ll play later. His versatility makes him an intriguing prospect. You can also tell he spends a lot of time in the weight room and is a physical player. He uses that strength well in all phases of the game no matter what his role is. You could put him at running back and linebacker too and he’d fair well.
Moving to the defensive side of the ball, our DL name to know is 2024 DE Tyler Wise Tyler Wise 6’4″ | 205 lbs | DL Brooke | 2024 State WV of Brooke High. Wise is a good sized prospect at 6’3 205 and he uses his length well to his advantage. He could easily fill up that long frame and play in the 240’s-250’s after some time in a college strength program. Wise also has a solid wrestling background which stands out on film with his effective use of his hands and arms to keep opposing OL away from him and get around them. Wise has adequate speed for a DE and does a good job of rushing the passer and tracking opposing players down from behind. Another year in his high school’s off-season program should prove valuable for him as he continues to get stronger and bigger.
Triston Stevens
Triston Stevens
Triston “Flash” Stevens’ nickname is very appropriate. While he’s not the biggest at 5’10 165, his “Flash” nickname proves true on film showcasing nice speed and agility. Stevens showed he could run step-for-step with opposing receivers and does a nice job turning his head and making a play on the ball. When he makes an interception he is also a threat of getting upfield and having a good return. As previously mentioned, his speed allows him to close well on receivers if they create separation on him. Stevens also does a good job at gunner on special teams and gets downfield in a hurry to make the tackle on the returner.
Although just a 2025 prospect, keep an eye on DB Triston “Flash” Stevens in his next two years of high school.
