Continue ReadingHayden Gregory set the foundation for his Bluffton Bobcat program in his debut season in 2022, guiding his team to a playoff win. He’s already started to get ready for a big year two. On Friday night, the Bobcats hosted their annual spring game on their home field with an atmosphere that felt like a Friday night in the fall. And we saw some new and old faces alike that shined on the field.
After playing for their rival across the bridge a season ago, the Bobcat fans got to see what versatile quarterback Owen Bayes Owen Bayes 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Bluffton | 2024 State SC could do under center. He’s shown some early improvements with his reads and accuracy and continues to bring a dynamite level of hustle and quickness on scrambles and designed runs. Bayes may not play all the snaps this year, but he’s looking like someone the Bobcats can turn to in different situations, especially close to the goal line. Jeremiah Curry Jeremiah Curry 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Bluffton | 2024 State SC continued to show out on the field and has turned into not just one of the best linebackers, but all-around defensive players in the state. The unique blend of quickness, agility, and physicality he brings rivals any South Carolina prospect, and he will showcase that full package again this fall. Newcomer Carnell Warren Carnell Warren 6'3" | 170 lbs | WR Bluffton | 2026 State SC also made a big splash on Friday’s spring game and figures to be an important piece in the receiving corps right away. He’s built quick chemistry with his teammates and can make important catches in a ballgame while providing grit and toughness on the defensive side. With the loss of phenom wideouts Jaylin Linder and Camauri Simmons, it could be up to Warren alongside speedster Brandon Bryant Brandon Bryant 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Bluffton | 2024 State SC to make more plays both on the outside and on screens during early downs. Gregory will need the play on the line to be the difference to give room for his skill guys to show out, and he will put much of the responsibility on the duo of Elijah Creighton and Chamber Eldridge. Both impressed in the spring game with their strength and ferociousness on the line and should give the Bobcats a chance to win on each side of the ball.
Gregory was most excited about the compete and aggressiveness he saw from his players on Friday and will hope to see it translate to the bright lights this fall. The stakes have been raised in the weight room, in the film room, and on the field, and we expect some even bigger things from the Bobcats in a few months.
