Continue ReadingThe Fighting Cougars of McCook Central/Montrose have always been an 11B power in my years covering SD. They have usually been just one win away from the Dome each year and the 2022 season was no different. With the returning players they have for 2023, I can see the changing and getting that big win to get them there! Check out the 2023 Fighting Cougar players!
2024:
Carter Randall Carter Randall 5'9" | 170 lbs | LB McCook Central-Montrose | 2024 State SD (TE/LB), Highlights
Randall has the intangibles for a good hybrid LB/DE, which works perfect in today’s era of football. The speed he displays makes him a good perimeter defender. His physicality make him a good walk-up DE and play well in the trenches. Put both of those abilities together and he contains the ball very well. Also double over and put him in pass coverage and he can defend the flats against any receiver. Above anything else, the kid will make tackles.
Ty Nathan Doblar (WR/LB), Highlights
Doblar has the tape that I really like to watch! Nothing too flashy that makes him standout really, he just does all the little things better than most. Good speed, hands, and muscle to top it all off, and the kid puts it together to play football. It seemed like he had that trust with his QB. If he was under pressure, he just threw it in Doblar’s direction and let him make the play. Defensively, he read his keys, and filled the gap quickly. A lot of fundamentally clean tackles on his tape as well.
Connor Mcguire (WR/DB), Highlights
Mcguire is an athlete I’d describe as a finesse type, but has physicality as well. The finesse is in his route-running and his pass defense in zone coverage. His routes are crisp and precise to get himself open for the QB. Also very light on his feet to move around quickly in his zone to stay close to the receiver to make a play. The speed works well on both sides of the ball to make plays. Lastly, his physicality shows up with timing the passes to the receiver and then drilling him, knocking the ball free.
2025:
Boston Katzer Boston Katzer 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Lennox | 2025 State SD (QB), Highlights
Katzer is a young gun that has already proven himself in the varsity offense. Showing a lot of promise for the future with a lot of good tape as a Sophomore. Seeing him on other athletes’ film, I couldn’t tell he was a Sophomore. A year of experience will make him even scarier in the next two years. Showing good arm strength, but very good accuracy in the deep passes, dropping the ball in the bucket at 40 yards. Working on getting more zip on short passes and the kid will be a nightmare to defend.
