Recruiting Update: Raton’s Walton signs with NMHU

<p>New Mexico Highlands has pulled off a major recruiting coup.</p>

<p>2023 Raton running back [player_tooltip player_id='138053' first='Cayden' last='Walton'], the state's all-time career rushing leader, has signed with NMHU, Prep Redzone New Mexico has learned.</p>

<p>Sources within the football programs at both Raton High School and NMHU with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed the signing.</p>

<p>Walton finished his distinguished career with 7,971 rushing yards in four seasons, including a state single season record 3,123 yards in 2022 when the Tigers reached the semifinals of the Class 3A playoffs.</p>

<p>He earned 2022 District MVP honors.</p>

<p>Walton scored an astounding 95 touchdowns in his prep career, as well as amassing 9,641 all-purpose yards. Raton was a combined 20-5 in his junior and senior seasons.</p>

<p>He was offered by NMHU on Feb. 24. He was one of Prep Redzone's three finalists for the New Mexico Heisman Award.</p>

<p>Walton is the 29<sup>th</sup> 2023 prospect from New Mexico to sign with NM Highlands, which has made signing in-state players a major priority under second-year head coach Ron Hudson and new recruiting coordinator Garrett Myers. </p>
