The defensive backs were on point all afternoon, and each one made quite the impression. What stood out even more as their offensive counterparts outnumbered nearly having triple as many wide receivers for the dbs to face. Not once did I hear one of them complain, as each kid wanted as many reps as possible. My top 5 are below including my MVP:
Leading off with my MVP and that would be the class of 2025 West Allegheny star safety Brock Cornell Brock Cornell 5’11” | 185 lbs | DB West Allegheny | 2025 State PA . Right before the defensive backs session, I began to hear about the hype this kid was starting to create and after watching him in person, I can see the hype is real! Cornell was a beast all day running 4.4 40 and being lights out in the one on one sessions. He really took charge with the whole defensive back group and refused to take any reps off regardless of how exhausted he may have been. Sporting a modest 3.978 GPA, I can see why no schools like Fordham and Duquesne are already showing interest. After his outing on Saturday, I am beginning to believe that this kid is FBS bound.
Highlights
If I am being honest Hicks could of been named MVP on the day too, I was very torn but nonetheless this kid is legit! Another rising junior this young man was excellent, especially during the one on ones. Constantly facing some of the top receivers in the state, Hicks would not back down and would not take a rep off, love his competitiveness. Playing for Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, this dude can play, all the coaches on hand loved his ball skills and technique. Expect to see his name rise in our rankings coming soon, he has earned it.
Dylan Spriddle
Dylan Spriddle
Spriddle can play, another class of 2025 member who if you do not know about him, you will come this fall. Another young man who really stood out and held his ground during the 1 on 1 sessions. This kid has elite ball skills and size that should make a fit at least at the PSAC level if not higher. I expect big things out of him come late August, boasting a 4.2 GPA you can see his high IQ transition smoothy to the gridiron.
Robert Nettles-Carter
Robert Nettles-Carter
Nettles-Carter is a star in the making for Bonner and Saturday certainly helped him prove it. Playing both wide receiver and corner, it did not matter for this dude as he was making plays all over the field. This rising junior has excellent hands and good footwork, cannot wait to see what he does in the fall.
Jack Penzone
Jack Penzone
Rounding out my top five was Jack Penzone from Sun Valley, he is one tough hard nosed football player. Standing at 5’7 you might think he would have trouble with his not ideal size, but that could not have been further from the case yesterday. Running a 4.6 40, Penzone can fly and is a physical safety who can deliver some pop.
