For those that might not know, the state of South Dakota is a brand new state to 7v7 as up until last year, they did not have any 7v7 club programs in the state, and have punched their ticket into 7v7 football, and now have three teams (Sioux Falls Sharks, Midwest Miners, and South Dakota Elite) and I am sure more are coming soon in the Mount Rushmore State. I was chomping at the bit from my drive to Des Moines to Sioux Falls to get coverage on the Midwest Showcase, and now over the next day or so, will tell you about all the standouts, including tonight with Part I!
Jamir Byrd Jamir Byrd 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2025 State SD , DB, Midwest Miners/Sioux Falls Lincoln (2025)
- Jamir might not be the biggest cornerback on the field, but the physicality and football IQ this young man has certainly makes up for it, and he proved that on Sunday at the Midwest Showcase last Sunday.
- He showed off a plethora of versatility on the fly, showing off great instincts on the second level of the field in coverage, and showed a fearless demeanor shutting down the free gunner within the gaps with his rangy coverage areas.
- Jamir is an example of a defensive back prospect that might not have that accolades of varsity tape yet, however is a prospect in the last month or so at Iowa 7v7 and the Midwest Showcase that has seen his stock rise on my 2025 board, as he has benefited from the reps he has been given in a 7v7 setting that is still new to our South Dakota prospects.
Jack Thue Jack Thue 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Brandon Valley | 2024 State SD , QB, Sioux Falls Sharks/Brandon Valley (2024)
- Jack in my eyes was one of the best quarterbacks in attendance last Sunday at the Midwest Showcase, showing off some excellent arm talent despite the heavy winds he dealt with last Sunday on all three levels of the field.
- He also showed great balance in all the throws I got to watch last Sunday, using the proper arm strength within those levels of the field and showed off consistency with his precison especially when he let the deep ball fly to some of his top wide receiver targets from Sunday.
- Our QB2 on our 2024 South Dakota rankings, certainly saw his stock rise last Sunday, and I expect it to continue to rise as we get into prospect camp season in the coming weeks throughout the Dakotas.
Blaise Showers Blaise Showers 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2025 State SD , QB, Midwest Miners/Harrisburg (2025)
- Blaise is another prospect that I have seen steady growth from since Back 2 Ballin last month, into last weekend’s Midwest Showcase as a 6’4 200 quarterback prospect in the 2025 class that keeps catching my eye with the poise this kid has in the pocket.
- I will mention the wind again because it was a big factor for throwing the football last Sunday, as Blaise showed the ability to fit the ball into some very tight windows with the arm strength he showed off from one side of the field to either, and plays the game as a QB with a significant amount of grit and trust in his arm.
- Harrisburg has a plethora of talent at the quarterback position in the 2025 and 2026 class, as Blaise is a QB prospect on the rise, that would certainly benefit in a showcase setting like our upcoming Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase this Saturday in Aberdeen.
Tytan Tryon Tytan Tryon 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Harrisburg | 2024 State SD , WR, Sioux Falls Sharks/Harrisburg (2024)
- Tytan showed off last Sunday why he is one of my favorite wide receiver targets in the state of South Dakota, specifically due to the consistent balance this young man plays with at the WR position.
- He also showed off excellent amounts of attention to detail in his game last Sunday, as an accomplished route-runner that has the most electric hands in the 2024 class that makes getting a ball over the top of the corner in high-traffic areas look way too easy.
- Tytan has several NSIC offers already this Spring, and I expect him to get even more as we get into camp season and should also see some FCS come his way in my eyes from the local South Dakota schools.
Tenzin Tendhar Tenzin Tendhar 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR St Anthony Village | 2024 MN , LB, Minnesota Elite/North St. Paul (2024)
- Tenzin by far was my favorite overall prospect from Minnesota Elite last Sunday, as this 2024 linebacker from North St. Paul played with some great feel for the linebacker position and was a ball-hawk on the ball.
- What impressed me most with Tenzin, was his vision as one of the last games Minnesota Elite played on Sunday, this young man was in on every play consistently over the middle of the field, and played with great amounts of work-ethic despite his squad being down by a significant margin.
- Tenzin in my eyes would be a great small school prospect at the middle linebacker position, although he plays wide receiver too, the instincts he showed me last Sunday fit best at the D3/NAIA level at linebacker, as I’ll be tracking this new North St. Paul Polar into his 2023 season.
