The names listed are some physical players who show their strength, power, and aggression in their play and manage to keep their quarterbacks and running backs clean. They play a much bigger role than people expect and never get the glory deserved, but they still go out and get the job done. Make sure to tune in to these stars throughout the summer and next season.
Jabari McAlmont
Jabari McAlmont
McAlmont does an excellent job of controlling his gap and dictating where defenders go. He a vast player who gets into the body and uses his strength and size to make running lanes. McAlmont creates a wall between the defender and ball carrier and does a great job of maintaining that wall. He does well on pulls, moving quick in space and locating defenders to clear in his path. His development will be one to keep eyes on heading into next season.
Echols fits perfectly with the Katy Football run game. His quickness off the snap and physicality at the point of attack is what creates such a strong run game. Echols drives low off the snap and goes through defenders in the path. He moves very well for his size and plays with purpose. In the passing game he does not over extend and keeps everything in front of him, mirroring rushers very well and halting their moves. Echols is a special talent on the line and is one to follow for years to come.
Armond Owens
Armond Owens
Owens is a big bodied tackle at 6’5, 290 who excels in the run game. He is nasty, physical, and will put defenders in the dirt if they are not prepared. Owens surprises some rushers with his quickness as well, showing his athleticism by crossing their faces and reaching them on some blocks and once you are in his sights, chances of escaping his grasps is thin. Owens has the potential to break out and his offseason work is key for that.
Alexander Vigil
Alexander Vigil
Vigil was a key blocker in many of one of the state’s top rushers this season. His quickness and speed in the open field after pulling was key to that. Vigil was a man on a mission after the snap. He was locating any player in the opposite jersey and looked like a bull once he saw them. Vigil cleared the way time after time, running through players and putting them in the ground. He exceled on combo blocks and working his way to the second level, moving line backers out of the way. Virgil’s role cannot be diminished and expect him to have that same if not more of that for next season.
Jude Edwards
Jude Edwards
Edwards is a scrapper who you can tell can get under the skin of opponents. He is a mauler in the trenches who drives defenders back, ignoring all attempts to break free. Edwards is powerful, and once engaged he is ruthless. His goal is to tally a pancake block which he succeeds at frequently. Edwards shows good lateral movement, quick getting to the next level on zone blocks and locking onto defenders creating space for his backs. Edwards is the type of linemen you would rather want on your squad rather than go against. He shows much promise in his play and is one to write down to keep track of.
