Here are some underrated names from the Lowcountry that have the ability to take off in the 2023 campaign.
If you watched any Eagle playoff game this past fall, you most likely heard Will Codding Will Codding 5’10” | 215 lbs | LB Beaufort | 2025 State SC ‘s name at least a few times. The tenacious Beaufort linebacker came onto his own in the postseason, using his unequivocal energy off the snap to dominate in the backfield. With a high display of physicality and a strong frame, Codding should emerge as a leader in the heart of Lybrand’s defense in 2023. Expect him to be a key playmaker from the start this fall.

A monster at linebacker for the Red Devils in 2022, Mandrell Sanders Mandrell Sanders 5’11” | 190 lbs | LB Hampton County | 2025 State SC will become a pioneer this fall as he leads the first-ever group of Hampton County Hurricanes out onto the field. Sanders is an athletic defender who thrives at rushing the quarterback and finishing off tackles. His speed is a strong asset of his game and can make impactful plays in the open field. A powerful linebacker and a clutch performer with his skill set, Sanders should be a featured piece of a Hurricanes team that could surprise in year one.

A beast in the middle of the Trojans’ defensive line, Dalton Woodall Dalton Woodall 6’4″ | 295 lbs | DL James Island | 2025 State SC should be a highly touted prospect heading into his junior year. The 275-pound lineman is strong and quick off the snap and can create valuable penetration at the line of scrimmage. His effort in stopping the run has been top notch, and he shows patience and pursuit to wrap up tackles. A hard-working young man who uses his hustle and footwork to get behind the line on a routine basis, Woodall could have a monstrous junior season for James Island.

Amor Scott Amor Scott 5’8″ | 220 lbs | RB James Island | 2025 State SC is a dynamic runner who should be a key ingredient of James Island’s offense in 2023. A quick and physical back who can hit the open hole and accelerate through space, Scott provides a number of tools to break long runs for his team. He was one of the most efficient runners in the group last year, using his excellent power and vision from the backfield to rush for over 8.1 yards per carry and nine touchdowns. He should earn a prominent role from the start in his junior campaign and will be a challenge to bring down in the open field.

A talented kicker can make all the difference for a high school football team, and James Island’s Gray Dangerfield Gray Dangerfield 6’1″ | 205 lbs | K James Island | 2025 State SC has emerged as one of the best in the rising junior class. A terrific competitor with the game on the line, Dangerfield showed his clutch factor in a big way, nailing a 22-yard game-winning field goal as time expired to defeat Irmo in the Class 4A playoffs. He’s got great range from well over 45 yards and the ability to lock in and make big kicks. Dangerfield has maintained a top national ranking and should be on many radars heading into his junior year.
