Unlike many other offseason linemen camps, Allegiance events feature the linemen wearing pads and soft helmets. One-on-one reps at Allegiance camps are closer to real game reps than any offseason program I have seen.
Here are the defensive linemen that had standout performances last Saturday:
MVPs
Moe was named the best interior defensive lineman of the showcase for the second consecutive time.
He is a three-technique who gets off the ball very quickly and can get to the offensive lineman’s body when he is hardly out of his stance. After the initial punch, he is a great hand fighter who gets in the backfield with ease.
He’s been having a great offseason and should see his recruitment pick up soon.
Webb earned First Team All-Trinity League as a sophomore last season and is one of the top edge rushers in his class.
He does a great job attacking the outside shoulder of the offensive lineman and has the speed to beat almost anybody off the edge. His added size this offseason adds a power element to his game and when you combine power with his motor, you have a scary edge rusher.
Sometimes he goes so fast that he loses his footing and hits the ground, but that’s something I am sure he is working on and it mostly happens when he is already deep in the backfield.
NEXT THREE
Williams is lengthy and has the athleticism to get off the ball quickly.
He plays hard and when he gets the edge on an offensive lineman, he knows what to do to get to the quarterback. Sometimes when the offensive lineman gets to his body first, he takes awhile to adjust and throw a move with his hands. That will improve with more game experience and when the helmets come on, but it’s something he can work on.
He has the length and strength to make some plays for the Diablos this fall. Williams has an offer from Sacramento State.
Highlights
Burnett will be an outside linebacker at the college level but is a stand up defensive end in Santa Margarita’s system.
He gets off the ball quickly and is a solid hand fighter. He does a good job getting his inside arm on the offensive lineman to gain leverage before throwing a move.
Burnett got an offer from the Air Force academy last weekend.
Steven Brannon
Steven Brannon
Brannon is a guy who wins his reps early by getting arm extension on the offensive lineman.
He gets off the ball well and has the strength to put the offensive lineman on skates. I’d like to see him improve his hand fighting a bit instead of just overpowering people, but he won the majority of his reps I saw last Saturday.
