Each school featured some amazing talent during the day. Some of the top players performed very well, but there were some real surprises and a couple guys that could be breakout stars.
It was fun watching Heyman throw the ball all over the field. He threw one of the nicest deep balls out of that entire weekend. He took command of his offense and was torching defenses at times. He did a great job spreading the wealth around to different receivers. He made good reads against different coverages, and Heyman is easily a candidate to be one of the top quarterbacks in New York
Another day where Melore was the most dominant receiver on the field. He hauled in the most passes out of anybody. He created separation with ease and his superior route running was on display. Melore showcased his deep threat ability with a couple of long touchdowns. He also was a problem in the middle of the field as he caught several passes in traffic against some tough defenses.
Highlights
Jamie Capizzi
Jamie Capizzi
Another big and strong receiver that stood out. He seemed like the most reliable target for Sachem East on the day. He ran solid routes and used his body to his advantage when going against smaller cornerbacks. His hands were great towards the end of the day and he had no issue moving the ball for Sachem. When it’s time for contact, he’s gonna be very tough to bring down in space.
After balling out at the PRZ showcase the day before, Stahl played well the following day during these 7v7’s. It’s no secret by now that he has one of the best arms in the tri state area. At times, he and Jack Melore Jack Melore 6’1″ | 185 lbs | WR Smithtown West | 2024 State NY looked unstoppable together. He plays with some real confidence and he strung together a bunch of really nice throws on the day. He’s the clear leader for a Smithtown West team that has so much potential.
Shakie Bethea
Shakie Bethea
I was excited to see Bethea up close and in person and he didn’t disappoint. At defensive back he was very reliable in coverage. He reads the opposition very well and has a great IQ. He covered ground extremely well wherever he was in coverage. He has the speed and instincts to make him an issue wherever he is on the field. Next season I could see him getting carries at running back which would form an incredible duo with Daniel White Daniel White ATH Half Hollow Hills East | 2026 State NY . Bethea also will be fun to watch in the return game as well.
Aj Vurchio
Aj Vurchio
The lefty quarterback had a nice performance during the 7v7’s. When he rolled out to either side of the field he made smart decisions and he showed his ability to toss accurate passes while being on the run. After starting as a sophomore last year, Vurchio has taken more control of the offense and he looked very comfortable moving the rock despite missing one of his top targets within Mikey Reilly Mikey Reilly 5’8″ | 155 lbs | WR Sachem East | 2024 NY .
Ryan Zeh
Ryan Zeh
One of the most intriguing stories of the day was newcomer Ryan Zeh for Half Hollow Hills East. Zeh is a basketball player for the Thunderbirds but this year he’ll be playing football. He is going to be a dynamic receiver for Hills East and will surprise a lot of teams. Zeh showed that he had terrific hands and he had amazing chemistry with Jordan Heyman Jordan Heyman 5’11” | 175 lbs | QB Half Hollow Hills East | 2024 State NY . He ran solid routes and had good lateral quickness. Zeh has a lot of potential and is someone who can shock people next fall.
Max Nicholas
Max Nicholas
This was one of the more thrilling stories of the day, Nicholas was one of the most athletic players on the field. He gave defenses trouble as he was a sneaky good route runner. He got into space and made some great catches where he adjusted his body to make a play. With a lot of attention on Melore, he thrived and its gonna be exciting to see him get the ball into open space. He’ll form a nice connection with Brayden Stahl Brayden Stahl 6’0″ | 180 lbs | QB Smithtown West | 2024 State NY next season and he’ll also make an impact on defense
Charlie Higgins
Charlie Higgins
The shifty receiver from Smithtown East ran some really good routes during the 7v7’s. He was one of the best athletes on the entire Bulls squad and he’s gonna be a force on both sides of the football. Last season he had his fair share of big plays on offense and with his speed he has a good chance of doing it again during his senior year. He looked good in space, showing off nice cuts on offense and good footwork on defense.
