These camps are also the stage for under the radar or under recruited kids to show up and prove that they have what it takes to play at the next level. We have seen many kids go into camp season with little to no offers, and leave the summer with tons of interest and offers. In this article I want to look at five IL prospects that have the tools and traits to breakout during their camp cycle. Make sure to have these kids on your radar if you will be at any of their camps.
The first prospect who I believe will breakout during this camp season is the DE out of Naperville Central. Maverick Ohle Maverick Ohle 6’2″ | 245 lbs | DL Naperville Central | 2024 State IL will prove that he checks off a lot of boxes that the next level wants and needs. He stands at 6’2″ 243 lbs, and more importantly has a nearly 6’5″ wingspan. Coaches are going to love the effort they see when this kid takes the field. He is a high motor athlete that makes a lot of plays just due to that motor. To go with the motor, Ohle is extremely strong. He has shown on tape, and will at camps, that he can get the leverage advantage and then drive linemen into the backfield. The standout DE also does a consistently good job of using his heavy hands to defeat blocks. The camp circuit is going to give Maverick a great stage to show off his talents. Don’t miss out on this student athlete.

The 5’10” 165 lbs DB out of Fenwick is an athlete who will make coaches like his game at camps, and when they go back and check the tape they will love his game. At camps, Donnell is going to show off his strong athletic traits. He is a twitchy athlete with great short area burst and the long speed to be able to cover man to man deep downfield. French also shows good technique in those downfield situations. He stays in his man’s hip pocket, leans and looks for the ball, and times his hands well to break up the pass or pick it off. His loose hips and change of direction will also standout in coverage drills. When coaches go back to the tape they will also see how great of a tackler the DB is. He offers a very well rounded game. Get eyes on him.
Aric is a very intriguing WR prospect that should quickly grab the attention of next level coaches. Aric has a well put together, powerful frame at 6′ 190 lbs. That powerful frame has made him a big problem for defenses after the catch. Aric has proven he can run through arm tackles and absorb the body shots without getting off balance. Where he will stand out after the catch at camps will be with his burst. Aric accelerates with eye catching burst. Especially after catching the ball on curls or comebacks. The junior also is blessed with the balance and body control to run crisp routes that open up a lot of separation from his DB. Lastly, Johnson tracks the ball really well in the air, and has the soft hands to be bring in the ball anywhere in his catch radius. A big camp season is on the way.

Max might be the athlete who sees the biggest increase in his recruitment based off his camp performances. I believe he is still looking for his first offer, but that won’t be far away based off what I’ve seen from him. Hrvatin has a great frame to continue to build on at 6’2″ 220 lbs. With that frame comes next level speed and strength. Max benches 410, squats 565, and cleans 300 lbs. He also runs 4.63 in the 40. It all translates to the field as well. At camps, Max is going to prove that he can be a three down LB with his coverage traits. Hrvatin looks natural dropping into coverage, especially in zone. He is a quick processor and his range allows him to close quickly. Max is going to test well, look good in one on ones, and when they go back to his tape it should seal the deal. Big summer ahead for the Joliet Catholic LB.

An RB that coaches need to have their eyes on this summer is the Elgin 2024, Matthew Lawson Matthew Lawson 5’10” | 180 lbs | RB Elgin | 2024 IL . Matthew looks the part at 5’10” 195 lbs. He has the potential to make a name for himself early with his athletic testing numbers. On tape, Matthew’s speed jumps off the screen. It looks like he is playing at a different speed than the rest of the field. He is able to beat pursuit angles, and his burst from 0 to top speed is next level quality. Lawson seems to be a natural pass catcher as well. He is going to prove to be a mismatch nightmare at camps, and his tape should have the next level very enticed. Don’t miss this dude.
