There are also two defensive linemen and a tight end in Fort Mill you’ll want to keep your eye on as well.
Malachi Jefferson Malachi Jefferson 5'10" | 250 lbs | DL James Island | 2025 State SC , DL, Indian Land
Jefferson is attacking and is as aggressive at the point of attack as they come. He can disengage with a blocker quickly to get into the backfield and create a negative play for the opposing offense. We saw a couple of times watching his film where he would beat the lineman off the snap off the ball and by the time the ball carrier tried to get going, he blew the play up. He finished the 2022 with 110 tackles, 9 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.
Brady Ambrose Brady Ambrose 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Catawba Ridge | 2025 State SC , TE, Catawba Ridge
Ambrose is a great fit for what the Copperheads want to do offensively. He can line up in the box to block on run plays in the “Wing” position and he’s physical at the point of attack. But if you didn’t know his position, you’d think he’s a receiver because he can run shallow routes across the middle, catch it over the middle and has sure hands. He’s tough to guard because of his size. Ambrose finished with 27 catches, 377 yards and 4 touchdowns. Keep an eye on him as we move ahead into the summer and this fall.
Justice Foster Justice Foster 6'2" | 285 lbs | DL Rock Hill | 2025 State SC , DL, Rock Hill
Foster can defeat blocks quickly to make tackles at the nose tackle position. He does a great job of using his hands to disengage the opposing offensive lineman. He can plug up running lanes well to limit the gain. We saw his effort and quickness on display when a screen was run and he chased it down from behind.
Trenton McGill Trenton McGill 6'1" | 250 lbs | OL Clover | 2025 State SC , OL, Clover
McGill transferred from Fort Mill to Clover last year but has made a difference at both schools at the guard position. He has great hand usage and can shuffle his feet. He can get to the second level quickly to create holes in the run game.
Will Massey Will Massey 5'11" | 185 lbs | LB Northwestern | 2025 State SC , LB, Northwestern
Massey was a tackling machine at his linebacker spot in 2022. He takes great angles to the ball and is fun to watch when running backs go one-on-one against him in the hole – he wins the battle the majority of the time from what we saw on his film. His impact isn’t just relegated to defense, but he makes his presence felt on special teams as he sprints down the sideline to make tackles, a lot of times before the runner can get momentum. He finished the season with 104 tackles with 8 and ½ of them for a loss.
Finley Polk Finley Polk 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Northwestern | 2025 State SC , QB, Northwestern
Polk (pictured above) thrived in the Air Raid offense that the Trojans ran during the 2022 season – all as a sophomore. If you need him to make the deep throw, he puts the ball where only his receiver can go up and make a play on it. And he leads his receivers well with good ball placement. If his first read isn’t there, what we saw on film is an ability for him to not panic and pump and go to his second read, which in a lot of situations, wasn’t a bad choice. He threw for 3304 yards and 37 touchdowns, completing 67% of his passes as he led his team to a berth in the 4A state title last year.
Trooper Floyd Trooper Floyd 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Chester | 2025 State SC , QB, Chester
Floyd is fun to watch. He is athletic, tall and has a cannon for an arm. He excels on roll outs to his right where he can find an open receiver down field. But you also have to be careful that you don’t forget about his ability to scramble and keep plays alive with his feet. The awareness that he has in the pocket is impressive to move away from the pressure. He sets his feet well and makes accurate throws.
Ian Grissom Ian Grissom 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Rock Hill | 2025 State SC , QB, Lewisville
Grissom thrived in the Lions offense in 2022. Of course, he can show off his arm strength with the deep throws for touchdowns where he puts it right on the money. That’s a given when you turn on the tape. But the thing that is more impressive is his ability to make throws over the middle and to stand in the pocket against pressure. He showed the ability to take off and run if a play isn’t there and won’t force the ball. He threw for 2491 yards and 43 touchdowns last year.
