2025 5'11 180 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='372522' first='Kelvin' last='Winston'] - Gonzaga

[player_tooltip player_id='372522' first='Kelvin' last='Winston'] deserves a lot of recognition for his spectacular performance in 2022. It was most definitely his breakout season, and, as a result, he has already received D1 offers from stellar programs such as Tennessee, USC, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Rutgers, and more. Winston earned 2nd Team All-WCAC honors last Fall as well, and, more recently, he also took home the all-around 1st place prize in the Wildcat Track & Field Invitational this month. [player_tooltip player_id='372522' first='Kelvin' last='Winston'] is a fantastic all-around prospect, and my prediction is that he earns WCAC 1st Team All-Defense honors in 2023.

2025 5'7 170 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='506900' first='Dameon' last='Simms'] Jr - Woodson

[player_tooltip player_id='506900' first='Dameon' last='Simms'] Jr is absolutely a sleeper defensive back prospect that warrants a lot of attention. He was named DCIAA 1st Team All-Defense, as a Sophomore, and his overall efforts on both sides of the ball were integral to his team's 4-2 conference record. He possesses blazing speed, and, with or without a ball in his hand, he's an extremely explosive player. Simms plays in a highly competitive DCIAA conference with a lot of talent, therefore I believe that his skillset will translate perfectly to the D1 level. [player_tooltip player_id='506900' first='Dameon' last='Simms'] Jr recently finished 3rd in a track meet which shows his offseason commitment, and I feel very safe in saying that 2023 will be [player_tooltip player_id='506900' first='Dameon' last='Simms']'s best year yet.

2025 5'10 150 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='348427' first='Ky'ree' last='Murphy'] - Calvert Hall

[player_tooltip player_id='348427' first='Ky'ree' last='Murphy'] displayed a ton of potential last year, and I feel comfortable saying that 2023 will be a breakout year for him. Murphy is currently the #20 ranked defensive back in the state, but, after next season, I believe that he will climb a lot higher in the rankings. He averaged multiple tackles and passes defended per game last season, but he'll definitely double those numbers this upcoming season. Murphy has already drawn interest from a few D1 DMV powerhouses such as UMD and JMU.

2025 6'0 180 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='347298' first='Kyle' last='Greene'] - Calvert Hall

As they're side by side on this list, [player_tooltip player_id='348427' first='Ky'ree' last='Murphy'] and [player_tooltip player_id='347298' first='Kyle' last='Greene'] are also side by side in the Prep Redzone DB rankings at #19 and #20 respectively. Greene racked up 23 total tackles on the season, and he even hauled-in an interception and forced a fumble. His elite defensive performance was of paramount importance to Calvert Hall's 4-2 MIAA record, and I am confident that he will have an even better year in 2023. Local scouts must find themselves at Calvert Hall next Fall, because their program produces rising stars like [player_tooltip player_id='347298' first='Kyle' last='Greene'].

2025 6'0 180 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='511144' first='Terry' last='Dorsey'] - DeMatha

[player_tooltip player_id='511144' first='Terry' last='Dorsey'] already has offers from D1 programs such as UNCC, Temple, and USF, however, I believe that these offers are just the tip of the iceberg for Dorsey. He's in a premier position to have a huge year with the DeMatha Stags this Fall, and my prediction is that Dorsey earns WCAC All-Defense honors at the end of the year. [player_tooltip player_id='511144' first='Terry' last='Dorsey'] and the DeMatha secondary will be one of the top defensive units in the WCAC this upcoming season, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they allow less than two touchdowns per game on average. There's a reason that the DMV reigns supreme, and I have a feeling that Dorsey and DeMatha will set the standard for high school defenses in Maryland this season.
