ANDERSON | Dashun Reeder Dashun Reeder 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Christ Church | 2024 State SC was full of surprises on Saturday.
He’s almost a full two inches taller than his 5-10 listing, at 5-11.75. He’s 10 pounds heavier, too, at 185, and he’s got a 76-inch wingspan.
If you think Reeder’s verified measurables opened some eyes, you should’ve seen him when he started to move.
Reeder claimed the fastest 40 time of the day at the Palmetto Combine Series’ West Senior Combine at Westside High, turning in a laser-timed 4.4 seconds.
“My first one was slower than I wanted it to be,” Reeder said of his dash. “When the second one hit, I knew I just had to get it faster.”
The Christ Church standout wasn’t done. He ran a 4.4 pro shuttle as well, and had a 34.5 inch vertical and a 9 foot, 9.5 inch broad jump. He more than held his own in drills, and claimed the morning session’s MVP Award.
“This creates a level of worth, in a way,” Reeder said. “This is my standard now. I have to keep on pushing and getting better. I can’t slow down.”
Reeder said he’s focused on helping the Cavaliers repeat last year’s success, when he rushed for well over 2,000 yards and the team claimed the 1A state title.
“I’m just looking to be a better teammate for my guys, a better brother, as well as getting better on the field,” he said. “Just maintaining everything and keeping everything going well.”
On Saturday, he had a good time while turning in a good time.
“I had a lot of fun out here,” he said.
Other standouts at the West Senior session included:
Highest Vertical Jump and Fastest Pro Shuttle: Khilon Groves, T.L. Hanna
Groves stood out in a big way with a couple of eye-popping numbers. His vertical came in at 37.8 inches, while he ran the pro shuttle in 4.27 seconds.
Best Broad Jump: Zay Johnson Zay Johnson 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB Clinton | 2024 State SC ,Clinton
Johnson showed his explosiveness, leaping 10.35 feet at the broad jump station.
Best Defensive Lineman: Michel Holloway, Greenwood
Holloway stood out in the competition phase of the session, routinely beating his man and getting to the bag in a variety of situations with a bunch of different moves.
Best Offensive Lineman: Watson Young Watson Young 6'2" | 260 lbs | OL Daniel | 2024 State SC , Daniel
The latest in a long line of standout linemen for the Lions, Young looked good in competition drills. He was rarely beaten, locking up some of the best DL in the state to standoffs in a lot of situations, and outright wins in even more.
Best Offensive Skill: Eli Hudgins Eli Hudgins 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Powdersville | 2024 State SC , Powdersville
Hudgins has a big arm, and showed it on Saturday in drills, throwing some good balls and winning in big situations. He also showed his mobility with a good 40 time.
Best Defensive Skill: Tycorien Gist, Greer
The Yellow Jackets return a ton of talent, and Gist is high on that list. The speedy defensive back showed off some skill on Saturday, playing well in one-on-one drills.
