Continue ReadingEastern New Mexico head football coach Kelley Lee likes to make Junior Day an event, which is why he combined one of the most important dates annually on the recruiting calendar with the Greyhounds’ Spring game.
Result? About 80 prospects from New Mexico and West Texas showed up last Friday afternoon to learn more about the ENMU program in what is usually a critical first step in the recruiting process.
“They got to tour the campus, learn a little bit about our program, meet with our offensive and defensive coaches and tour all our facilities,” Lee told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “It’s a first step for the student athletes. We have already watched film on most of them and gotten the prospect sheets back.
“Everything concluded with our spring football game. We make sure our Junior Day coincides with our spring game. The kids can see our players, how the coaches interact with them and see our talent level. Overall, we know that’s a big part of what the kids want to see. They want to know if it’s going to be a good fit for them.””
ENMU signed nearly 20 New Mexico players as part of their 2023 class. Their recruiting for the 2024 class in well underway. Next step? The Greyhounds will conduct four camps in New Mexico beginning in late May:
May 23 – Portales (ENMU Campus)
May 24 – Carlsbad (Carlsbad High School)
May 25 – Albuquerque (La Cueva High School)
June 15 – Las Cruces (Centennial High School)
“We already have a bunch of kids signed up for our camps, which is the next phase of the recruiting process,” Lee said. “We’re always going to start in our backyard with New Mexico and West Texas. If we do a good job there, we don’t have to go much farther.”
ENMU will host their annual 7×7 Tournament and Linemen Challenge at Greyhound Stadium in Portales on July 21.
