While taking a break from the college exam cram, I put on one of my favorite Youtubers, ThatFranchiseGuy, and played a “My Guys” video of his. “My Guys” are a collection of players I’m higher on than most. These are players that are underappreciated, in my opinion, and range from top talent to DIII prospects!
TE | Brady Prieskorn Brady Prieskorn 6'6" | 230 lbs | TE Rochester Adams | 2024 State MI | Adams | Hudl
Now, ok I know Brady just committed to Michigan, and he’s ranked #2 in the class, but don’t be surprised if he’s #1 on Prep Redzone soon. I absolutely love what Brady brings to the table, and I think he has a chance to be an All-Big 10 player in the future. Right now, we’re looking at an extremely fit 6’6 230lb high school Tight End with an extremely well-rounded game. Playing for Adams, Brady has experience blocking in the Veer Scheme, but the offense has also opened up quite a bit for him, running a lot of vertical routes. Brady has significantly improved after each season, and I think the recruiting websites as well as Wolverine Nation has been underselling what this kid could become.
G/C | Miguel Botello Miguel Botello 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Muskegon | 2024 State MI | Muskegon | Hudl
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve talked about Miguel. When I first watched his Sophomore film, I was extremely impressed. I was even more impressed when I watched him in person in the State Championship. At Ford Field, I thought Miguel fought his tail off and made some super impressive plays. This is a kid who plays through the whistle and truly has the heart of a Big Red. Miguel continues to grow on me, and I’ve found myself very high on him. I think he has higher highs on tape and a higher upside than a lot of P5 prospects. I love the coaching at Muskegon, I love the competition, and I really like the scheme. At this point, he’s a MAC lock, and I think he deserves a P5 opportunity. Go watch his film!
QB | Zak Olejniczak Zak Olejniczak 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Lapeer | 2024 State MI | Lapeer | Hudl
Zak has grown on me a ton over the past year or so. For starters, the dude led Lapeer to a 7-3 record playing a tough schedule, helping lead the offense to 36.2PPG. Zak’s overall stats are extremely similar to Mason Mckenzie Mason Mckenzie 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Caledonia | 2023 State MI (SVSU Commit), and I feel he deserves to be talked about in the same light. In addition, this offseason was been wildly impressive. Zak most recently won the Gunslinger QB challenge, has impressed at many camps, has been trained by Joe Boisture and others, and has greatly improved his stock. Zak is definitely a “My Guy” and again, he’s a Division II Prospect in my book, and I put him on the same level as Mason Mckenzie Mason Mckenzie 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Caledonia | 2023 State MI .
QB | Cooper Nye Cooper Nye 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Airport | 2024 State MI | Airport | Hudl
Cooper has been a HUGE My Guy since my first rankings update. Now, watch Aaron Rodgers’s 2021 highlights alongside Cooper Nye Cooper Nye 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Airport | 2024 State MI ‘s 2022 highlights and tell me they don’t look similar. Nye and Rodgers have a similar flick-of-the-wrist type of throwing motion, and Nye has flashes of phenomenal accuracy. Now, I don’t love Nye’s footwork, and his turnover ratio isn’t good, but his arm talent is special. It’s famously difficult to be consistently accurate with his quick throwing motion, and I’m not sure of Nye’s ability to read a defense. Still, I’m going to be dumbfounded if Nye doesn’t at least get a DIII opportunity. With a great QB coach at the next level and an elite work ethic, Cooper could go extremely far. He isn’t a D1 or even D2 guy right now, but he has the potential to be that.
QB | Tyler Herzog Tyler Herzog 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Avondale | 2024 State MI | Avondale | Hudl
Over the past 9 or so months, Tyler became a My Guy. I had briefly coached Tyler during his Freshman season at Avondale, where he came in as a small and firey QB. He did the work and really really competed hard that season, but I couldn’t have guessed to see him perform so well last season. Tyler really impressed me against Seaholm. In a super rowdy environment against one of the toughest tests of the season, Tyler found a way to get in the zone. Tyler constantly found ways to escape pressure and find guys downfield. Overall, Tyler led Avondale to 31PPG and a phenomenal offensive season for the Yellowjackets. This offseason, Tyler has been everywhere it seems, and has been performing well time and time again. He’s locked in for his Senior season, and I’m very curious to see what he’ll do with a new scheme.
RB | Kellen Russell-Dixon Kellen Russell-Dixon 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI | GR Catholic Central | Hudl
Kellen is a super-talented RB playing for a smaller program that regularly churns out D1 prospects and Championship Rings. I really like Kellen’s subtle movements in space, overall speed, strength, and vision. I’ve seen Kellen play last season as well as during the offseason, and it’s apparent this guy has real college (I’d say DII) potential. I’m pretty confident that Kellen will eventually earn himself an opportunity, but for now, he remains underrated.
RB | Sean Emerson Sean Emerson 5'8" | 180 lbs | ATH Seaholm | 2024 State MI | Seaholm | Hudl
I slept on Sean Emerson Sean Emerson 5'8" | 180 lbs | ATH Seaholm | 2024 State MI until recently. Seeing Sean amongst all the athletes at Legacy Midwest really put his talent into perspective. Sean is built very well and is amazingly athletic. He’ll get his touches with Seaholm’s Veer offense, but he won’t get a massive amount of carries because of the scheme. DIII sleeper that could go DII.
WR | Jake Vermaas Jake Vermaas 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR South Christian | 2024 State MI | South Christian | Hudl
Jake is going to tear the field apart this coming fall. He was out for a very significant period of time last fall but came back to light up the state championship and be an easy MVP pick at Legacy Midwest. Jake has great release, runs great routes, and has the hands and concentration to go up and get balls. He’s a matchup nightmare for any team, and I see Division 1 potential with Jake. His stock is currently very low based on his potential and the little media attention he’s gotten thus far.
WR | Mill Coleman Mill Coleman 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI | GR Catholic Central | Hudl
Mill Coleman Mill Coleman 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI is a T&F Star and has incredible upside as a football player. A transfer from North Farmington, I don’t think Mill had the right offense around him for him to shine. I know that GRCC is super high on him, and I’m confident he’ll light it up with a very favorable passing system. I don’t quite know his college potential yet, but I am supremely confident that he’ll put up numbers this season.
