We venture back into the far northern region of WI in search of more juniors that are sure to prove they have next level talent during their senior season. In today’s article we take a look at the film of five soon to be seniors that need to be on the radar of next level programs. Don’t sleep on these hidden gems in northern WI. We begin in Turtle Lake…
The 6′ 175 lbs athlete contributes in almost every way for Turtle Lake. He is a dual threat QB and also a DB for them. When it comes to projecting Walker to the next level, I have him labeled as an ATH because I feel his athleticism would best fit in the defensive backfield or at a skill position on offense. That is where he can use his best traits. Those top traits include 4.78 40 speed, and a 35″ vertical allowing him to cover ground quickly in the short area and across the field. He sees the field well too as he is running the ball. Check him out.
Koy Hopke
Koy Hopke
Koy is an intriguing prospect. He is a dominant wrestler for Amery as well as a powerful running back. That wrestling background jumps off the screen when he is carrying the ball. His balance and body control is so impressive. He takes hits to the hips, shoulders, lower legs, and it doesn’t matter. Koy stays on his track and keeps plowing downfield. The FB is a north-south, downhill runner who requires gang tackles to bring him down. Hopke brings that same physicality to the LB position where he flies downhill, powers through blocks, and makes tackles at the line. The athlete should have his choice between wrestling and football for the next level.
The 6′ 255 lbs center is one of the top northern WI OL prospects in the Class of 2024. I came away from his tape impressed with his footwork. Zane maintains a wide base throughout the play and is able to move quickly downfield as well as laterally to reach blocks. His light feet are paired with solid upper body strength and a powerful punch. Amershek is a bully in the trenches when Lakeland Union runs the ball. You can see that he is looking to finish blocks to the ground or through the whistle. Check out his tape below.
Highlights
Maccoy Holmquist
Maccoy Holmquist
The 6’4″ 215 lbs All Conference TE is hidden gem in northern WI. Maccoy is a well rounded TE that can be relied on in the pass game and the run game. In the pass game, Maccoy is a solid route runner. He can get through his breaks smoothly. He has soft hands and has shown to be a monster after the catch. Holmquist has the strength and balance to run through tackles and hits. On the ground, Holmquist is an impact blocker. He can get himself in position to have the leverage advantage and he is able to hold his own against level one. He needs more attention. I think he can be a fast riser this year.
Leahland Bertrand Leahland Bertrand 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Marinette | 2024 State WI
Leahland Bertrand Leahland Bertrand 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Marinette | 2024 State WI
The 5’9″ 170 lbs RB is an explosive ball carrier that would do well in a change of pace role. A role where he can be utilized out in space. That way he can use his instincts to read the field, set up blocks and defenders, and be a mismatch with his speed. Bertrand also shows off his short area agility and burst with his between the tackles highlights as he picks through the trash and finds green grass. Check out the tape below.
