Reese Ahrens, Alpine (LB): After two years of varsity football, Ahrens already has over 100 tackles, including 47 with 5.0 TFL as a junior in 2022. One of the top linebackers in Class 3A in West Texas.
Ivan Carreon, Odessa (WR/TE): Already committed to Texas Tech, the 6-foot-6, 200-pound Carreon is a major weapon in Odessa’s offense, totaling 51 receptions for 1,168 yards and 14 TD as a receiver in 2022. He’s rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals. Carreon is also a standout hoops player and was recently named District 6A-2 Defensive Player of the Year. With his size, speed and elite athleticism, Carreon should enjoy a monster senior season this fall before heading to Lubbock next spring.
Marcos Davila Marcos Davila 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Midland Lee | 2024 State TX , Midland Legacy (QB): Regarded by most recruiting analysts as the top QB in West Texas for the 2024 class, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Davila decommitted from TCU two weeks and reopened his recruitment. There won’t be a lack of suitors. He has scheduled a trip to Purdue and will later visit Houston, Miami and Colorado, per reports. Blessed with a strong, accurate arm, Davila passed for 3,052 yards and 36 TD last season. Expect him to surpass those numbers in 2023.
Athen Dominguez, Midland, (DB): Dominguez emerged as one of the top safeties in West Texas last season with a team-leading 108 tackles and 2 interceptions. He had 13+ tackles six times in 2022. He’ll be counted on again to make plays on the third level of the Bulldogs’ defense.
Eason Fierro, Greenwood (DT): Competing in Class 4A, the Greenwood defensive line was highlighted by Fierro’s 49 tackles, 7 QB hurries and 3 forced fumbles from his defensive tackle spot. He should be a force in the middle of the Greenwood defense again in 2023.
Parker Haynes, Permian (DB): Haynes earned Defensive Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-District honors as an OLB/Safety after making 69 tackles, 12 TFL and 6 sacks, proving he’s fearless when it comes to coming up to the line of scrimmage and making plays in the opposing backfield.
Damien Johnson, Midland Legacy (DB): Earned First-Team All-District honors after making 57 tackles, 2 interceptions, 6 passes defended and, incredibly, 4 fumble recoveries. That latter number shows Johnson possesses a strong nose for the football and is usually involved in the play. He turned heads at last weekend’s West Texas Showcase and earned MVP honors. He locked down every receiver he guarded and showed his versatility.
Juzstyce Lara, Permian (RB): Lara fell ONE yard short of the magical 1,000-yard plateau by rushing for 999 yards and 23 TD on a workhorse 200 carries. He averaged close to 20 carries per game and was clearly Permian’s choice to carry the football inside the red zone. Expect more of the same in 2023.
Corbin Luna, Fort Stockton (RB): Luna led Fort Stockton to a 10-2 record and a second place finish in District 4A-2 by rushing for 1,169 yards and 10 TD on 171 carries. Few running backs in West Texas were as productive as Luna in 2022. He averaged 6.8 yards per rush.
Brylee Perez, Midland (RB): Perez showed off his skills at last weekend’s West Texas Showcase, earning praise from recruiting analysts. In 1-on-1s, his speed made him practically unguardable by defenders. As a junior in 2022 he rushed for 722 yards and 8 TD on 87 carries, averaging 8.3 yards per carry.
