2024 Midland (TX) Legacy four-star QB Marcos Davila Marcos Davila 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Midland Lee | 2024 State TX announced on social media Tuesday night that he had committed to Purdue of the Big 10 shortly after returning from an unofficial visit to the school in West Lafayette, Ind.
Prep Redzone Texas ranks the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Davila as the No. 97 overall 2024 prospect in Texas, and the No. 15 QB. Major recruiting services Rivals.com and On3.com rate Davila as a four-star prospect while 247 has him as three-stars.
Davila decommitted from TCU on Feb. 22, just over a month after Horned Frogs offensive coordinator Garrett Riley (brother of USC head coach Lincoln Riley) left for the same job at Clemson.
In backing off from TCU, Davila said on Twitter, “College football changes fast and relationships matter so I feel it’s best for me to re-open my recruitment,” an indirect reference to the positive relationship he had built with Riley.
The same time Davila was being recruited by TCU, he was being pursued enthusiastically by West Virginia offensive coordinator (and former North Texas OC) Graham Harrell, and developed a strong relationship with him as well.
Five days before Christmas, Harrell left WVU to become Purdue’s offensive coordinator under new head coach Ryan Walters. Harrell visited Davila at Legacy High School in January, per 247.
Considering the relationship Harrell had previously built with Davila at WVU, Purdue was quickly labeled a favorite to land Davila when he decommitted from TCU.
In two years (plus two games as a freshman in 2020) as the Legacy starting quarterback, Davila has thrown for 5,799 yards and 63 TD, displaying a rocket arm and high football IQ in the process. Last season he surpassed 3,000 passing yards for the first time, and is expected to accomplish the feat again in 2023.
