The promising is, some tape came from the schools at the top of the Class, but also from the teams at the bottom. With some of these players on the list, it might shake up the rankings a little bit in 2023. Check out the Players in the ND 2025 Preview for 11A!
JB Walters JB Walters 6'4" | 260 lbs | OL Grand Forks Red River | 2025 State ND (OL/DL)- Grand Forks Red River, Highlights
Walters has that fire on the Offensive and Defensive Line to make a lot of noise as a Junior. A low center-of-gravity and speed in the trenches makes him a headache for his opponents. Using both those tools and a mean streak and he is laying out defenders left and right either pulling or down blocking. He uses his shoulder pads well in blocks and coordinates his hands in the blocks to make sure he keeps his defender out of the play. Defensively, he uses his physicality to plug the outer run gaps. Also using his speed and quickness to shake the blocker and put pressure on the QB.
Nate Walz Nate Walz 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Jamestown | 2025 State ND (WR/DB)- Jamestown, Highlights
Walz shows the speed and hands to be a very good vertical threat out of the slot. I like the way he slow plays his timing routes, then accelerates out of the break at the landmark. He also does a good job finding the soft spot in the defense on combo routes and making himself visible for the QB. Showing tremendous concentration catching the ball in traffic when the defender is able to run with him. On the defensive side, he takes away his side of the field in the passing game. His speed helps him stay within playmaking range of the deep passes. He shows good ball skills when the pass is in the air and defends the perimeter well with good tackling.
Xander Moody (OL)- Fargo South, Highlights
Moody showed he can be affective at both Long Snapper and Center. Getting good velocity on his accurate long snaps to keep extra points and punts automatic. Doing the same at Center, but also showing a quick first step to be in position to make a block. Though he may be smaller than most Nose Tackles he faces, he does not back down from any of them. Once he snaps the ball, he is right in his defenders grill and wins the leverage battle almost every time. Using all of his frame on each block to stick his defender right at the Line of Scrimmage once he is in position.
Bryson Heck Bryson Heck 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Valley City | 2025 State ND (QB/K/P)- Valley City, Highlights
Heck shows good poise being a mobile QB. Taking his time to make a good fake on play-actions to fool the defense, then getting his head around quick to start making his reads. He really does a good job going through all of his reads and makes the best decision for the play. Squeezing passes in tight windows to hit his target in stride. He also does a great job reading defensive flow off the play-action and finding the open target, knowing his routes on each play. Also filling the roles of Kicker and Punter, he shows good height and distance on both facets, making him a big asset on special teams.
Joshua Chavez (RB/LB)- Watford City, Highlights
Chavez is a good offensive sleeper, that you don’t want to sleep on. His physicality, speed and vision makes him a good pounding back that can rip off those big chunk runs from the FB position. Also showing he can be a good lead blocker, using his speed and physicality again to get to the first opponent and lay a big hit on him. Defensively, he fills his gap perfectly on run support. Getting his read then using his speed to plug the gap. Also getting good depth on his pass drops to take away passing lanes, but still keeping the QB in sight. Lastly, he has pretty good form on his tackles.
Taylor Stefonowicz (QB)- West Fargo Horace, Highlights
Stefonowicz shows a lot of potential for his Junior Season. Having a good frame, arm strength and poise in the pocket are all good tools to build on. Giving himself time to read on deep pass drops, also time for the receivers to get downfield. He does an excellent job not rushing throws or routes and waiting for them to develop. Putting a good zip on his quick release, also showing some accuracy at various distances. Showing good footwork when scrambling as well, keeping the ball at a good level for a quick release on the run.
